Speed up ADOBE acrobat reader!

This came from FurryGoat who got it from Sanjay's Coding Tips who found it at Darrell Norton's blog. It's a short list of things to do to speed up the launching of Adobe's Reader

machine upgrade...It is all the plug-ins that are enabled by default slowing Acrobat reader down. After removing all but 3, it loads pretty much instantly.

Here's how to do it: VERY SIMPLE!! VERY EFFECTIVE!!

Go to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader (replace the C if you installed on another drive, like I did).

Create a new folder called plug_ins_disabled.

Move all files from the plug_ins folder to the plug_ins_disabled folder except EWH32.api, printme.api, and search.api.

There should only be these 3 files in the plug_ins folder.

You're done.

Tried this with reader 7, seems to work although there does not seem to be a Print-me.api. Left both search api's where they should be.

This does a similar thing with many more tweaks to choose from

Makes it lighting fast and you can change back to the old settings quickly

That really does work. Didn't take long to download and it goes straight to the document without any messing around. It's great improvement so many thanks.

I found a newer version of pdfsu

Does this apply to Acrobat reader 7.0 folder too? I have Acrobat 7 professional and in the program files I have 2 folders : Acrobat 6.0 and Acrobat 7.0? Wondering whether to alter settings in both folders or just 7.0? Thanks.

i use Adobe every day in my job and its been driving me bloody nuts yesterday i had to leave the job unfinished as it locks up on me from time to time..gawd knows whats its doing.
any tips like that much appreciated so less work and more reading on this board

Yeah 7 works even though without the speedup 7 is fatsre than 6 but the speedup certainly makes it faster on loading.

I use this for viewing PDFs

Free PDF Create no need for Acrobat Pro Distiller etc...

For creating PDF from any Windows application, and for "printing out" confirmation slips etc to PDF (eg. on a wireless laptop or anywhere you do not have a real printer, or want to waste paper / ink) is use the Free (GPL) PDF Creator.

If you want a network printer that produces PDF (so there is no software to install and everyone in an office can use it, try the PDF Printer ad ons for SME server at contribs.org) I have one set up it works a treat. Again all Free (GPL) software works Mac, Windows, Linux.
