Short bread

I was going to get my children to make short bread for my mom as a present. She loves home made gifts especially if the children have made them. My question is - what would its shelf life be in an air tight container ?

About five minutes if I can get the lid off
Store shortbread in tightly covered container, with waxed paper between layers, at room temperature up to 4 days, or in freezer up to 3 monthsHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I think it depends on the recipe (particularly the quantity of butter) and how hard you cook it, but I've kept it perfectly well for a couple of weeks. No idea why though
must have been ill or on holiday or something, normal shelf life for biscuits in my house would rival Squeaky's!

The 8oz flour to 4 oz butter to 2 oz sugar recipe keeps for a month in a cool, airtight container, if nobody but me knows it's there.0

lol - that sounds about right...
I know that if you keep shortbread and it gets a little soft, it's perfectly ok to stick it in a hot oven for a few minutes to "crisp" it up again.Pre O/S: what's a vitamin? Does it begin with the letter e?Now: I'm not eating any of that pre-made rubbish...0 -
after reading the christmas thread me and my 21 month old made some shortbread
. it didnt last long, especially once daddy got home but how long will it keep and does it have to be air tight? we're planning on making some for christmas that DD will decorate, then wrap in cellophane but don't want to be doing it christmas eve :rotfl:

it keeps in an airtight tub for about 3 months (never lasts that long in our house though). for xmas, i make in advance, then decorate and wrap in cellophane about a week before, as long as its secured tightly it'll be fine.0

thanks for that. The 1st batch didn't last 3 hours let alone 3 months :rotfl:
But at least I know we can do it a week in advance and it will still be ok.
Am getting hungry at the thought, might have to do another trial run0 -
we bake it quite often, the kids love it, its nice if you mix in some dried fruit too for fruit shortbread.0

oh I never thought of that, sounds yummy.
I was thinking of covering some in chocolate for christmas, do you know if they will still keep the same?0 -
they will keep, but only for about 6 weeks or the chocolate can go a bit white like old chocolate can, but still means you can do them well in advance of xmas though. we half dip ours, only for the sake that young kids have a non choclate bit to hold on to when they are eating so they don't get half as messy. we also make a batch after xmas dipped in melted toberlerone, as the kids always get a big one each at xmas and get bored before they finish it, makes a nice change though if you can get one cheap somewhere.0
