RBS New Cashline Plus Debit Card And Other Changes

I just got a leaflet from RBS with my statement today detailing some changes taking effect over the coming months.
There is a new Cashline Plus debit card with Solo that will replace the present Cashline card which is a cash card, this change will affect customers with a current account. This means the Cashline card will remain unchanged for savings accounts.
The new Cashline Plus cards will be available from this month onwards and a programme to replace all current account Cashline cards with Cashline Plus cards will commence in 2008.

Another point on the leaflet is the option for users of RBS Highline and RBS Cashline Plus debit cards to sign up for RBS Secure with a private password when buying goods online from selected online stores, the user is prompted to enter random letters fom their new password before the sale is completed. http://www.rbs.co.uk/rbssecure/debit

Another point is that RBS is introducing Chip And Pin machines in branches to help confirm your identity when carrying out transactions.

Sorry if someone has already posted any of this news but the leaflet is dated 09/07 so I assume it has just been sent out

  • Many banks are changing their basic account. Word on these boards is that LTSB are going to do their basic account with a Visa Debit rather than a solo or electron
  • will this apply to royalties gold accounts, as i couldn't get a debit card with mine
  • At the moment it is only covering the new RBS Revolve Youth account but over the next few months all Current accounts with CashLine cards will have them replaced.

    Hope that Helps

Oh, so that's why my OH was asked to enter his PIN when paying a cheque INTO our joint account when he didn't have the cheque book pay-in slips!

Besides that reason, I think they want to be like Natwest, as their 'cashcards' are Solo, while the debit card is Maestro. Therefore, RBS cash cards are now Solo debit cards.

Natwest does that as well. Natwest is part of the RBS group.

It is funny you should say that, when i was deciding where to start re-banking after a long period of being unbanked, I emailed RBS and asked if they had any plan to introduce SOLO, like its other bank NatWest has, as many of the banks seemed to be moving towards giving people with baisc accounts a debit card and as a major player in the industry I thought they seemed rather out of touch and I was told in writing "nope, we are not planning on introducing SOLO". Maybe the change by the Clydesdale, and all of these pre-paid products has forced them in to updating their position. James
  • Update.

I sent an email last week to RBS via contact us page on RBS website asking when I could expect my new Cashline Plus card for my Key account. I never received reply but yesterday I received my new Cashline Plus card with Solo for my Key account and it works with my existing PIN.
As my wife did not receive one she has sent an email asking about when she can expect to receive her updated card. I suspect that my new card was sent out as a result of my enquiry.
  • I forgot to mention that there is a blue and red circle with maestro written on it on the back of the new card, so don't know if that means you can pay using Maestro as well as solo or not.
Also the signature strip is cluttered with designs and colours if you write your signature on the back with a ball point pen you will have a hard job trying to see it clearly.
