What is your security set at under the wireless settings on the Netgear router status page??0

You can usually find that first bit of info by accessing the router @ 192.168.1.1 (type it into your browser). This may not be the default address but I expect it is. The username and password will be in your instructions. It's usually something like username:admin passwords:admin.0

Ok, beaten to it. Next look at getting your Mac Filtering (so that only your hardware can use the connection) setup and maybe switching SSID broadcasts off (that's what tells everybody else that you have wireless).0

Or just enable WPA-PSK2 if your adapter supports it (your router does)0

Adding a bit to albertross's post, get a random 63 character printable ASCII key from https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm and save it in a Notepad file. Then when you paste this key in the router config and click Apply and the connection drops, you can copy and paste the same key when Windows prompts you for the network key.
Re broadcast SSID: You _may_ be able to disable broadcast of SSID name, however sometimes wireless computers can't connect with it disabled, so leave it enabled for now.0 -

admin
password
wireless settings
wpa-psk
change the ssid to something random
type in a different random word/phrase into the network key box
click apply
your connection should drop
Then in windows, connect to the network, and put the same key in.
It's easier with an ethernet cable, because the connection won't drop when you secure it.
If it all goes pear shaped, press the reset button in the back for 10 seconds and start again (this does a total reset, so you will need to put in your isp details again).
This all assumes you have xp or vista, which supports wpa

Click Set Password in the router config and enter a new password for the admin user name. However, any one with physical access to the router can just reset it to factory settings. Maybe lock it in a cupboard?
Is it legal to lock 2 children in a cupboard if yes how big a lock should i use ?
