Anyone know if you can hand wash a dryclean only silk skirt and top?

If you want to risk a hand wash, you won't be able to complain or claim a refund if the garments are ruined.
If you are prepared to risk it, hand wash with very cool water (barely warm) and use a gentle (Dreft?) product.........I'd try shampoo. I wouldn't risk a washing machine. I would drip dry (over the bath) the garments and iron on the lowest setting whilst slightly damp.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. What is the lining of the skirt, if it has one? This may be more vulnerable than the slik when washing. I have certinaly hand washed unlined silk stuff without a problem in the past but is is always at your own risk.Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

I wouldn't recommend the machine either, unfortunately son's offer of helping mum with the washing meant that one slipped in
Fortunately it was rescued with the aid of a coolish iron.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

hmm... probably not then. It is pure silk with a lining of nylon I think.
Thanks everyone, I might not risk it thenI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

I've heard that 'dryclean' means you can handwash with care, but 'dryclean only' means exactly that. I've damaged a pair of dryclean only linen/lycra blended trousers by handwashing them very gently, the buggers shrunk!'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' My sister uses some tumble dryer sheet like things that are supposed to "wash" dry clean only things whilst they're in the tumble dryer. They come in a metallic blue/pink packet, but I can't remember the nameMurphy's No More Pies Club #209

I've hand washed a variety of silk clothing with varying degrees of success. I have found that with brightly coloured silk loads of dye will come out into the wash water. I would be very very careful about washing something which is lined as it can be a nightmare ironing it so that it hangs right afterwards.I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:0
