My NTL deal -how does this sound ??

Options
It's difficult keeping track of all the Broadband/Telephone/TV deals available & constantly changing prices
-it does my head in !!

I am now paying £38/month for:
-4Mb Broadband .................(usual cost = £24.99)
-Telephone, Talk Weekends ..(usual cost = £11)
-Basic Cable TV package.......(usual cost = £11.50)

I have been paying £38/month for last year & am getting £9.49/month discount, as it should cost £47.49/month.

How does this price sound ??

  • That sounds reasonable to me, but how long is the deal due to last? When I've negotiated discounts with NTL in the past they've only lasted for 3 months.

Hey presto, I go & check NTL's home page (https://www.ntlhome.com) & they have new packages they did not have 3-6 months ago !!

    1) I currently have Base Cable TV package.
This used to be the lowest TV package.

NTL now have 2 new TV packs below Base TV Pack, obviously to compete with Freeview:

-Free TV Pack (for new customers with telephone line)
    -Select TV Pack £5.50/month
-Base TV Pack £11.50/month -my current one

    2) They also have another "3 for £30" offer which includes:

-Talk Weekends (telephone & weekend calls)
    -2Mb Broadband
    -Select TV Pack

I was on a different "3 for £30" deal last year.

I really want Freeview (without using NTL), but don't think I can get in my area due to poor aerial reception.

Looking at NTL packages/options don't think you can have Free TV Pack when you have Broadband.
They only seem to give Free TV Pack to new customers when they only have Telephone line.

But I'm interested in this new "3 for £30" deal as 2Mb Broadband/Select TV Pack is ok for me & cheaper than what I'm paying now
(£38/month for 4Mb Broadband, Base TV Pack, Talk Weekends).

At the bottom of page 3 on my latest bill, it states:

"THREE GREAT SERVICES, FROM JUST £40 A MONTH. Get Talk Weekends, 4Mb Broadband and Essential Pack TV for £40 a Month for a year, when you pay by Direct Debit. Find out more on 0800 952 8055 or for other queries call 0845 142 0000. Subject to availability, survey, 12 month min term contract. Broadbandspeed via set-top box may vary. Offer ends 15.1.07. Further conditions apply, see www.telewest.co.uk"

I typed it out exactly as it is.

This is currently cheaper than I am paying for 2MB bb, essential TV and line rental.

Couldn't see any info on the website about it. Anybody else got this on there bill? I might give them a call, even though today's the last day for it.

Well I phoned them up yesterday morning, and they told me that I wasn't eligible for the offer as I already have the 3 services (phone, tv, internet) and that as they are only the sales dept. they couldn't do anything about it. She suggested that I try customer services instead and transferred me over, but there was a 45 minute queue on the line  As I had to go out yesterday morning I couldn't hold on that long. The offer finished yesterday so looks like I've had it.
  • Try speaking to the cancellation depatment but make sure you have the deal priced up as cheaper with someone else...

I.e. if you have 4mb broadband find anywhere that does it cheaper and tell NTL you can get it cheaper and see if they will match it!!!

You can normally get 10mb broadband 1/2 price too if you ask nicely ;-)
