I know peeps have posted before about the Ol'Style benefits of using your local library so forgive me shouting their virtues also.
I'm currently sitting in a library in Mablethorpe, it is about the size of my sitting room at home (the library not Mablethorpe!). It has walk-in internet access and I don't have to be a member of the library to use it. I walked straight in this morning and did all my online banking, picked up my emails and saved a fortune in credit card interest by paying a stoozing balance on-line that I should have paid before I went away but forgot! and now have a few minutes to browse MSE before I go and pick the kids up from swimming.
The staff are helpful and friendly and are full of useful information. As I pay rates for this area I can join. I didn't think you could join ther local library unless you were a permanent resident! So I'm off to sign up so I can strip the crime section. See ya when I get back- Love MATH

hi allexie,
if they have a book sale on, which ours do from time to time, its a great place to get cheap cookery and house hold books.0 -
Mine hires out videos and dvd's for a week for the price you would pay for a day anywhere else:):):)"This site is addictive!"

You can join libraries if you are a temporary resident too, e.g. staying in a city for a few months for a course or something.
I have membership of both Notts & Cambs libraries because I'm a student and live in each county half the year.0 -
I had to give my library a miss for a few years because I'd boxed up some library books when we moved and forgot all about them, luckily when I joined Surestart they issued me with a library card s I'm going to start using it this weekOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

Our main library has just gone on-line which means we can reserve and request books from the comfort of home. Also, for a 50p fee the library will buy new books not already held by them and put the 50p payer at the top of the lending list :T
Libraries are also an excellent source of leaflets and info about things going on in the area.Use words that are soft and sweet in case you have to eat them.0 -
When I go on holiday in the uk I use the local library for the internet if I need access. It has always been free and is not time limited. When I went away last summer, my daughter was just recovering from an illness. We both like to visit local attrctions but she tired easily. We broke up the day by going into a local library. I went on the internet and read my emails and caught up with MSE etc and she read a book. It was calm, quiet and cool. After about an hour she usually felt rested enough to go on with the day.0

I agree about using the internet in libraries when you are on holiday in UK. I do this when we are on holiday or visiting relatives.
Another tip about internet access at libraries. If you are on holiday in Spain it is possible to use the computers in the library for free provided you take your passport. The time you get is between 30 minutes and an hour. Certainly saves on postcards and keeping in touch with the family.0
