Wii - Technical Questions

I have one (not very technical) question.

There seems to be conflicting reports on the web as to what TV cabling options actually come in the Wii box with the UK version.

I can see chargeable add-on SCART, S-Video, Component, but what actually comes with it?

Thanks

    Someone must have opened one!

It's not going to be very clever when they are all opened on Xmas day and we don't have the right cables.....

I'll X post on the wii grabit thread, I'm sure someone has opened already.
  • The cables are the normal white, red and yellow with a scart attachment (if needed)

I can confirm that all the cables you`ll need will be in the box. They will work if you have a scart or yellow red and white phono sockets.

Get a second controller if you can as it will save you swapping the sweaty controller over every 30 seconds. If you want to play boxing you`ll need a second controller and numchuck too.

    Happy gaming

Ah great, that will do to get me going. I might upgrade to an RGB Scart or RCA Composite video later.

Component video, the cables you get with it are composite.

My RGB (or RVB as it is here) scart has been dispatched today. Component is taken up with my DVD Recorder in my set up.
  • Whats the difference between the included scart and an RGB scart?

The included SCART must just have one core for the combined composite video signal. It will work on all SCART TVs. The RGB one has three cores for the Video signal (red, green blue). This usually means a better picture. Most but not all TV's have RGB wires in their sockets.

Petemc - yes sorry Component, a typo.

The quality should go up down the list:

    Included cable to SCART
Included cable to RCA (really same as above)
    Purchased Wii to RGB SCART
Purchased Wii to S-Video (about the same as above)
    Purchased Wii to Component Video

    Probably more typos in there.

I can't comment on what is included with the wii, however...

A scart cable can carry more than one type of video signal. (RGB & composite)

So some devices can connect to a SCART but only transmit / receive video on the composite connection. Some devices will do both and you can switch between the two.

Some SCART cables are only wired for composite, some are 'fully wired' and capable of carrying everything.

And for the best possible picture quality you want an 'individually screened' scart cable - it does make a difference!

It should be noted, the UK Wii won't do S-Video.
Just to confirm, the UK Wii comes with composite, and a scart block. Both these will give identical images - ie really bad!
If you have a CRT, best image will be RGB (unless your TV does Component).
If you have an LCD, best image will be via component - just remember to change the settings to ED-TV.
