Roses And Spring

Now that spring is approaching I would be grateful of any old money saving
advice with regard to spraying rose bushes and keeping bugs like green fly and black spot at bay.
Thanks in anticipation.

My grandad used to do the same, use the water from washing up the dishes.

Soapy water in a spray bottle; spritz over leaves to get rid of aphids. Bury banana skins around the plants as they are high in potassium. Grwoind garlic near the roses will deter aphids too!

I think on next week's Gardeners World, they are talking about 'old wives tales' and do they work and they mentioned the banana skins under roses. Not a programme I usually watch but just caught the end of this week's. Might be interesting.

Also growing garlic scares off beasties and saves you having to buy it for cooking. I control black spot by removing the affected leaves & burning them or chucking them in the bin (not compost as the spores survive to fight another day).
