Interesting that Hungary is there, Lake Balaton http://images.google.co.uk/images?um=1&hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-GB%3Aofficial&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=lake+balaton&btnG=Search&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&start=0 perhaps?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I'm not sure how the PO made it's comparisons but three items immediately seem off for Turkey in that list, cigarettes, water and coke. Cigs cost the equivalent of £1.84 a pack of 20 (decent brand and there is still much whinging about that price hike!). Bottled water is .21p and 12 small plastic bottles of coke, lemonade etc is 82p.
You can still get supermarket lager at .43p a bottle and a 3 course meal for two minus the wine can be anything from £6.50 upwards........obviously depending on where you go. These by the way are resort prices here in Kusadasi/Guzelcamli and there will be differences throughout the country, but interesting read nontheless.
Hungary looks promising!0 -

I think you may have misunderstoodf that Dave, that's .43 pence a bottle. I did a currency exchange on yesterdays rates. Less than a penny a bottle of lager and the country would be flooded!0 -

I think that davetrousers is either dense or having a laugh. terry3 twice made it blatantly obvious that Supermarket beer can be 43pence a BOTTLE in Turkey, NOT 1 pence a Bottle !
Thing I don't understand is that if the value of the GB£ has only fallen in value against Turkish lira by 8% & yet it has fallen 30% against the Egyptian £, how come the PO reckon that it's "sample" shopping basket costs some 6GB£ more there than in GB (Brighton) which is not a cheap place ?
Having been to Egypt in February 2007 & again in June 2008 & witnessed the fall in exchange rates & buying power & having friends who went in November 2009 & noting their comments on comparative costs, I can honestly say that the PO's calcs don't seem to make much sense. Anyone out there with an economics degree who can enlighten me ?
Oh, I forgot to say, my wife & I are going to Turkey (albeit all inc') in May & other friends who went last year tell us it is very good value for money.
Cheers all. :A0 -

He used a decimal point and said .43p a bottle which is less than one pence. I am pretty sure that he meant 43p but one likes to check!
People should be aware of units and their correct usage......0 -
