Cooling off period
Options
couldnt see it anywhere on their website, but do Vodafone offer a cooling off period if you sign up to a contract via the web/call centre, my OH is looking to get the iPhone tarrif with them, and has been advised if she processed the order she could have delivery at home, or to a Vodafone store, she's used the coverage checker and that looks like there shouldnt be any issues with csignal, but before she orders she wants to ensure theres a chance of cancelling (especially as she would be collecting the phoen from the store, even though she'll be ordering over the phone)
She never thought to ask at the time, so I thought I'd ask the guru's on MSE

Hi Jim,
Pretty sure it's only safe if you have it delivered to home rather than store.
Have a read here ...

as long as you open it but dont make /recieve calls/texts can be returned within28 days if bought online or over the phone.... if you buy on the shop premises is 14 days0

Where did that come from?
Vodafones web site says you have 7 days to return it if bought over the web or phone (in line with distance selling rules) but no return is permitted if bought instore unless you have no coverage.
In that case you can return it in 7 days but only in that case, and no coverage is different to a 1 bar of 2g signal, I have lousy coverage in my house but it gets a signal (just!) so would not qualify.
Nor sure if you collect to store which will apply, may be better having it send to home to be sure.

Again can you say where this came form
Threes website says 14 days on online or phone sales, and three days if purchased is store. And it only applies if you don;t use the phone at all. THe OP want to check coverage which they have to use the phone to do so void the returns policy.

No it doesn't work like that I'm sorry to say ...have a read of this ...
http://www.which.co.uk/advice/dealing-with-mobile-phone-problems/your-mobile-phone-rights/index.jspIf you take out a mobile phone service contract online, by mail order or over the phone, the Distance Selling Regulations say you have the right to cancel the order and receive a full refund for up to 7 working days from the day after you place the mobile phone order. You do not have to give a reason for canceling the mobile phone service.
as in the OP's case for collecting it from the shop etc note how it changes ....If you buy your mobile phone or mobile phone service in a high street shop, you do not automatically have any cancellation rights if there is no problem with the mobile handset or mobile service, although some nobile shops may voluntarily offer return policies. It's not just about the money0 -
Hi Radsteral,
No it doesn't work like that I'm sorry to say ...have a read of this ...

Actually, you are only partially right, Silk. Yes, the OP can return the phone and get his money back, but as the phone is "free" that is not sensible. However, purchasers also take out a service contract as well and this is the rub that many posters don't understand. If you use the sim within 7 days of receipt, you waive your right to cancel the 18/12/24 month contract.
I did a bit of research on this and found the following at http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/general/oft913.pdf.
"Different rules apply to services where the consumer agrees that the service starts before the usual cancellation period expires. These are:
• where you have supplied the required durable information before the service starts and the consumer agrees to the service starting before the end of the usual cancellation period, their cancellation rights will end when performance of the service starts"
There is similar advice on the Which? web site and others too.
So it seems that mobile resellers are quite right in saying that you have no right to cancel the service element within 7 days if you use the sim. They would obviously allow you to return the free phone !
So, MSE members, beware. The first time you make a call or text, you are deemed to have started the service and if that is within the 7 days, you lose your right to cancel0 -
i think i am misleading here.
I am pointing to sending the phone back if faulty ... sorry0 -

She never thought to ask at the time, so I thought I'd ask the guru's on MSE
I work for Vodafone and the policy is as follows:
We send out the handset / pick it up from store and once received the customer has 7 days in which to decide to keep or send back. Now all the customer needs to do in that 7 day period is to contact us to advise they wish to return they dont actually have to return the item within that time.
hope this helps.0
