This was reported elsewhere a day or so ago.
Lets wait for the announcement and see what happens. Regardless, there may be other avenues available. Please ignore those people who post on this forum who deliberately try to misinform you. Don't be bullied by them, don't be blamed by them. You know who I mean.
You come here for advice, help and support- thats what I and like minded others will try to do.0 -
Re: OFT to make announcement DECEMBER 22nd - says Sarah McCarthy-Fry
OK,
I just spoke with the OFT.
Sarah McCarthy's comment yesterday was an un-briefed comment.
The OFT stand by their statement made to us at the meeting last week.
No decision has yet been made and they are not able to say when they will be in a position to make that decision or when it will be announced.
Because of the market sensisitive nature of both decision and it's announcement it is likely that they will only be able to give approx 1 hours notification of an announcement and that notification will take place after the financial markets have ceased trading for that particular day.

Anyone outside the banks agree the charges are unfair . The credit card industry sorted their charges out , and refunded millions . At around £12.50 for late payments there can be no complaints . So why not the banks follow ?0

I pray that the OFT carry the fight on for all the decent people in this country, but I have a feeling they'll think they've done enough already and that the cost to carry on this fight could become to much... so hope i'm wrong!0

As far as I am aware all consumer internet based forums asked about this have said that NOT to carry on when there are various legal arguments that could still be made would lead to more litigation anyway through the county courts. We will see on Tuesday I guess.0 -
with or without the oft this isnt going away, far from it,the banks cant bury this one any longer, its in the public knowledge absolutely now,and the banks are gonna get a bloody nose over it,what a shame :jmissed direct debit charges, very odd, theres no pain so how come the big gain,i.e £39.00 for a letter0

I think the OFT need to litigate on all issues so that we have 100% certainty in terms of the legal status of charges. Let's put it this way, none of us like paying taxes but we aren't challenging their legal status. Bank Charges have to be challenged so that whether they are fair or unfair, legal or illegal, lawful or unlawful, thieving or a service, that the answer to the question is definitively legally ruled on. Yes, we can have opinions and yes we can say we think that they are robbers or thieves but legally, if they are deemed as fair then we can move on and give advice based on what we have. At the moment, the waters are very much muddy and we are not certain.0 -
the banks are partly relying on the fact that there contract we sign is so tangled with uncertainty it will take a long time to sort it all out which gives them loads of time to argue the toss and rethink there arguments also, wheel within a wheel.........etc etc etc etc etc.
we need someone to say, enough is enough and sort it out fast, but that aint gonna happen cos i dont think any political party have the balls
gorden brown and cameron have pretended to be alongside but really there hedging there bets, vince cable has been more outspoken and aggresive about these very dodgy charges but they have all fallen short of saying "if we get into power charges will be returned one way or the other" anyway there not going to say that, the government arent certain either, thats how sly and deceiptfull the banks have been,i suppose most contracts have some form of penalty within them, however the banks approach is one of shear aggression, full tilt head on attack to customers accounts, they are relentless and cunning and would take the money from a homeless person im certain of it,they dont care about people, remember they cant see them,we are a number only, its on your bank card, that is how they judge all of us,name, rank, and number .
they dont care if your on the bones of your !!!!,they want your money, they take your money and then they tell you to get stuffed when you realise the plain fact that all along they have been waiting for you to mess up,in the knowledge its "kerching time at the zoo"for banks, theyve got used to ripping us off, they like it.missed direct debit charges, very odd, theres no pain so how come the big gain,i.e £39.00 for a letter0 -
ps banks have a rule, punish them by stealing(in my book they steal very slyly) there cash, great rule that one, lets destroy millions of bank accounts and drive those account holders out,but what the heck they get billions a year in pure profit until someone un tangles there ripp off schemes.
its plain and simple,it gets very close to financial genocide, thats a crazy two words to put together but to me,that is whats happening.
oh well nevermind another cup of coffee and im sure itll all come out in the wash. hmmmn.............
a bank charge that is £39.00 is quite frankly a sickening bout of pure greed and want, they try to justify it saying charges are within a package of services, that isnt a service, its a licence to filter off cash, the limit at which the banks set, right at the top, just before you choke on the disgust as you recieve a letter saying "we are taking £39.00" and maybe another £39.00 a week later as now your overdawn.its a licence,NOT A PACKAGE OF SERVICES.........................missed direct debit charges, very odd, theres no pain so how come the big gain,i.e £39.00 for a letter0
