  • MEGA HAMSTER REVIEW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

INC: SPANISH SET (GRANDE ADVENTURE), CAR, SKATEBOARD/U-TURN,SURFBOARD/BEDROOM,SLIDE,WHEEL,FUNHOUSEH

Good morning all! Well, last night dp and I put together all the hamster stuff we have and had a good old try of it all. We formed a massive hamster city which included all the add ons/playsets available. It looked ace all set up!

Firstly, the Spanish Set(grande adventure)- Includes Patches, carrier, slide, wheel, halfhouse. This all went together well, even though instructions are in Spanish. For all those wondering about compatibility with uk stuff, don't worry, the spanish stuff is made to exactly the same dimensions so it is all defo interchangeable. We linked the spanish house up to all our uk bits and the spanish wheel and slide up to uk bits with no problems at all.You can't tell at all which bits are from which country, they are all the same standard size. I know some of you were worried about the wheel and whether it had the correct pink connecting tube (as shown on uk box set). Put your fears aside! It has exactly the same pink tunnel as the uk set. basically the slide in the set comes with a blue ramp up to it and the wheel comes with a pink feeder tunnel (which leads hammie into it). All exactly as uk sets.

Slide and ramp: Well, these two bits are my favourite of everything! The ramp up to slide is steep and it is great fun to watch the hammies go uphill. Sometimes they get a bit stuck but is easy to open top of tunnel and give them a little push. They cruise down the slide really well. My kids will love this one i am sure. i also enjoyed sending them back up the slide (you have to push them a few times on way up) and watching them shoot down the ramp. they are not intended to do this (slide is too steep uphill for them really), but if you help hammie a bit up slide it is good fun anyway! So, in short, i recommend the slide and ramp. Every hammie lover should have one.

Wheel and pink feeder tunnel : The tunnel feeds to the wheel. The hammies generally need a little help both entering and exiting the wheel. Sometimes they do it on their own but more often you have to help them a bit. No big deal though and think kids will enjoy lending a hammie a helping hand. Again, this one is worth having i would say. Hammie looks very cute on wheel!

Fun House: Good fun! Hammies run round and round making noises in different rooms. They twirl, reverse and shout as they bump into walls and each other. They glide over sort of tracks/bumps which are meant to contain a code that triggers hammie to make appropriate sounds for room he is in. these work about 60% of time. hammie does not always hit them square enough to trigger them. Don't think it makes any real difference though as hammie makes sounds all the time anyway and even the 'room appropriate ones' sound quite random to me. So yes, house is worth getting.

Surfboard/bedroom: When the hammie enters the bedroom it starts to snore then shuts down and goes to sleep. Little ones will like this! This one works every time, hammies always behave as they are meant to once they enter bedroom. The surfboard is great fun too. You clip hammie on and away he rides! Looks really funny and surfboard helps hammie move better over wooden floorboards. This one is also worth buying!

U turn/skateboard: The u urn can be set up as you want to use it. Have it as a u turn or as a bendy track. I used it as a bendy track and clipped the sleepdome on the end of it. Could be used to join 2 hammie houses together if you wish to. Skateboard as surfboard, good fun and hammie copes better with floor boards etc. Worth buying for your set.

Car/garage: Well, I am sorry to report that this one was the big let down. Hammie is meant to go into garage on his own, go into car then drive off out of garage doors. In reality, the hammie ciould not get into correct position in car. Even when you take hammie out of garage and put hammie in correct position in car yourself it still did not work. hammie kind of rears up and shoots over the bit that is meant to hold him in and allow him to push the car forwards. We got it to work a couple of times by repositioning hamster a lot ourselves. It worked about twice though we tried about 20 times!!! No hope of hammie doing it on own as meant too. Tried 2 different hamsters (chunk and pipsqueak!) neither hammie could do it. Dp's view is that there was nothing wrong with hammies or car/garage, nothing broken to look at. He reckons he can fix it by fixing a little harnesss thing inside car to make hasmmie stay in right place rather than rearing forward into wrong position. He is going to start on this tonight! Will let you know how it goes. If he can get it to work it will be great fun.

I would be really interested to know if any of you have a car /garage that works as it is meant to. if you have not tried it out, maybe do so in case you too need to make some modifications in advance of xmas day?!

Conclusion : All in all though I am very happy with the stuff. I will say that it is worth rrp without doubt (apart from the car!) . Prob not worth extortionate ebay prices though. You would be gutted if you paid £45 for the wheel for example. Whilst it is good fun, it is just a piece of plastic and not worth that kind of money. The girls will have a great time on xmas morning. The whole city together looks really impressive and i can't wait to see their little faces. Am really glad i got it all, even though i did pay over the odds. That said i bought my ebay stuff before the prices went mental. Just the ball to arrive for me now. I really hope it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am off out now, will check back later.

Oh and all those who like Chunk the best, you have good taste. He excelled at everything he tried (bar the car) and seemed better and more able than pipsqueak! A real all round good guy!

I have thought about this a few times - and came to the decision that on Christmas Eve - I will set up everything and just cover it with a fancy Table Cloth or a bit of Fabric - saves all teh hassle of setting it up on Christmas Morning when the kids will be over excited and desperate to play with it.
