Try the grocery challenge on the old style board to find ways of getting this down. I find the only way I stick to a budget is to avoid the shops!!! I now shop using my supermarket.com, downshift brands and take stuff out my trolley - even with the delivery fee it is still cheaper than letting me lose in a shop! If you can be bothered retyping in your order you can go via a cashback site like quidco to say Asda and get 1% back on your shop - every little helps and all that!

During the past month I have emptied my freezer, fridge and cupboards ready to start from scratch to show the "real" cost of my spending each month. I have done a monthly meal plan and yesterday I went shopping and bought ONLY what was on my list. This diary is to try to keep me on track with my spending, to get down the debt and to try to stay focussed. My debt free date is July 2010 but I would love to try to knock 2 or 3 months off this. Its gonna be hard but i think its doable. All comments will be greatly appreciated.
I have also started a spending diary so hopefully will be keeping this updated
It is worth giving it a go! Also enter some of your regular unnecessary spends into the demotivator to see how much your little treats are costing - and then see if you can reduce them!
Welcome to the boards - hope the comments above are helpful. At least from what you've posted you should be able to clear your debts within a reasonable amount of time.... Well done on your progress so far!:TAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

The reason alot of my bills are so high is because when I moved into my home I had to get a phoneline installed so had to go through BT so got the package for broadband as well but now im stuck on an 18 month contract that doesnt end till May 2010.
Same with the TV, their was no TV ariel so would of had to buy one and get 1 installed, in hindsight it would of been cheaper in the long run but at the time i didnt have £350 to get the ariel installed so got sky instead  I do have the full package with sky but the only thing that seems to be watched are the kids channels so will downgrade as we dont watch sport and we dont watch alot of movies.
Car Insurance - because i moved from British Forces Germany my car was still registered with the MOD so I had to take out British Forces European cover, I didnt have a choice on this. Car is now registered in UK but insurance isnt up for renewal till June but will not be using TFS insurance again as I can and will get it cheaper.
Ive started a spending diary and note every penny I spend, yesterday was carp but WILL DO BETTER. Hoping for a NSD today as im at work later and get my dinner provided so no sneaking out buying snacks etc.
Ive also done a monthly meal plan, started cooking from scratch and have done bulk shopping so hopefully this month I will only need to buy milk and fresh veggies as I already make my own bread.
I have lots of things to list on Ebay but my camera is broken so could do with a new one but cant justify the spend at the moment although it probably would be an investment. I do have a camera on my mobile but the pics arent that good.
My aims for this month are:-
Stick to the meal plan
Remember to take stuff out of the freezer
have more NSD
Only buy things if i need it not because I want it
Keep up the spending diarytotal debt at LBM £4800

Hi Dreamy:D
Nice to find another diary to subscribe to;)
You sound like you're getting really organised - i love the monthly meal plan! I meal plan each week, but find we eat the same old stuff week in week out, so might have to pinch some of your ideas:rotfl:
How old are your children? I live on my own with my 2 - girls of 12 and 10.
As for daily scratchcards, I do 2 - one with Littlewoods (this is a ST minver site which you can only register with once, lots of the bingo sites are part of this group.) and one with Virgin. You deposit money (go thro Quidco!) play the free scratchcard andonce you've won at least 10p you can withdraw your original deposit (leave in at least 10p to keep the account open) and then you can play each day until you get to over £10 again (or £5 with Virgin you can withdraw at).
I hope that made sense - there's a big post on it somewhere, will have a look.....:pI really need to sort out a new signature!0 -
Kids went back to school on Monday after spending almost 2 weeks at home coz they had swine flu, I received a phoone call this morning to go and collect my daughter, she was feeling unwell and needed to come home. She took literally 3 steps through the front door and threw up everywhere so she is nicely tucked up in bed! So much for enjoying my day off work, thank goodness im off tomorrow as ive got sooo much to do.
Meal planning going OK but im going to make chicken fajittas tonight for dinner as I forgot to take the braising steak out of the freezer grrrrrrrrrrrrrr so will have to have that tomorrow.
Done scratch card today and won 50p so that brings my scratchcard wins to 95p not bad for 4 days.
Its been a spend day today only £2.30 for milk but still a spend :-(
Still keeping up the spending diary, also started a daily diary of whats in the bank so I can keep track on it.
Hope everyones ok
