Poor little morsel - five's a bit young to be stressing about homework! Why not send him in on Tuesday with the largest houseplant you have and write a note to his teacher saying that his bean REALLY took off!May NSDs 10/11 (Feb 8/10, Mar 11/10, April 11/11)May save on lunches challenge 12/18 (Feb 16/16, Mar 20/20, April 18/18)0

Not only that, beans don't like to grow this time of year anyway as the nights are getting shorter and it is too cold at night to sustain them; so it is no wonder the bean hasn't germinated. As we are in the lead up to the winter solstice, not much germinates this time of year. And, you have no way of knowing what condition the bean was in prior to receiving it so it might be a duff seed anyway.
I grow hundreds of bean plants every year, and about 70% of bean seeds are viable; and that's when they are sown in the warmth of May. Let alone November.0 -
I would not worry about it, if you write a wee note to say you followed the directions however nothing happened then the teacher will be fine.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

there not a lot you can do if it hasnt grown but then that is what you should record take a pic write it up and send it in:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

Tell them it grew into the sky so he climbed up it and stole the chicken that lays golden eggs. Then he chopped it down before the giant could climb down it and get the chicken back (and eat him).
And that's why he has nothing to show.0 -
Your son could learn a valuable lesson about science/biology and events being out of the control of individuals. Scientific experiments often do not turn out as planned, planting this seed is an experiment of sorts as he is recording his results. Nothing has happened, he needs to state it did not grow and maybe even suggest reasons why (avoiding calling the teacher tight for only giving one bean!). He will probably learn a lot more than the kids with a plant!
I'm guessing he gets his sensitive side from you, which is no bad thing!
The idea about getting him some cress or something to grow might be nice, he could write about how he is trying to grow a new plant in future.0 -
He sounds like a dear wee soul.
I agree that he should record it as it happened - ie it did not grow. That some children had beans that grew and some that didn't is in itself a worthwhile lesson.0 -
my guess is that his wont really be the only one. just laugh and tell him it doesn't really matter he can still report his procedure and the results. dont worry about not getting to see the teacher very often either. i only see her once a year if that and i hate parents evenings. if theres something to say they contact you. your little one sounds like my eldest, she was always eager to please too. how things have changed lol:rotfl:"that grady! won't sit next to a black child in church! but eats eggs, shoot right out a chickens !!!!!!" from fried green tomatoes:rotfl::smileyheaMSE is where my friends live :smileyhea0

Not all seeds grow into dear little plants. Explain to your son the importance of discovering that not all seeds do what they should, just like little boys..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0
