First Direct Leaving Bonus

I got £100 for opening my new FD account in February 2009.
Can anyone remember the terms for when you could get the £100 leaving bonus if unhappy?
I did not intend leaving but I got my monthly statement through the post yesterday totally unsealed. In light of identity fraud, there was a statement with all account details and personal details for anyone handling the mail to take or copy.
Not what you expect from a bank.

The only condition I remember was that you would have had to had your wages of at least £1500/month paid in for at least 6 months.
Why not talk to the bank instead of upping and leaving for something that's probably not their fault. There's a number of plausible reasons, it has got to get through the postal system first. Just looked - you needed to have used the Easyswitch service too, and not have had a First Direct account before this oneDebts at LBM (May '08) £5760 - Lloyds CC £4260, Lloyds OD £1500;Debts as of May 28th 2011:Santander CC: £0.00Lloyds OD : £0.00DFW Nerd #1247 - Proudly dealt with my Debts

Anyone working for first direct, their printers, their post room, at the royal mail sorting office or your postie could have just as easily taken the statement anyway - try and keep this kind of think in perspective and remember that you aren't responsible for any fraudulent activity.
I would call and let first direct know and you should get an apology, but closing your account over this seems like an overreaction to me!

, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.0 -
This happened to me too, just opend and looked as if it had never been stuck down. I rang them up and they said they have put a notice on my account that says that if any new direct debits or standing orders are set up they need to check it is from me.
They said they were very sorry. I am watching my account closely.0 -

If they can't be arsed to stick down envelopes then what else can't they be arsed doing ?0 -
I'm willing to bet they can't be arsed to give you £100 to leave. There's some small print about having only paying up if they do not fulfil their service guarantees. Having just had to lug a wad of cash between banks because Halifax's faster payments has gone down I'd say stick with First Direct. It's the most reliable bank around.0

Majority of financial institutions (I'm prepared to be corrected) outsource the printing and mailing to a 3rd party company anyway. It's unlikely FD is directly to blame.
Leaving the bank for the sake of an unsealed envelope seems a little extreme.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I would suggest you ring them and complain, you are not giving them the opportunity to put things right by just posting here. You could opt for paperless statements.
PS I've been with them for 15 years and never had a problem.
PPS Clicked thanks by mistake. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
bear in mind these items are processed by machine so the odd envelope may end up unstuck or as often happens stuck to another
when seperated one is left open0 -
FD's statements are indeed outsourced to a third-party print company. It's therefore unlikely to be FD's fault.
Complain and hopefully FD will complain to their supplier so that it doesn't happen again.Slimming World member - started 13 January 2010Starting weight: 11st 4.5lbs :eek:/ Current weight 11stMini Goal 1: 10st 11.5lbs (1/2 stone)10% Goal: 10st 2.5lbsMini Goal 2: 9st 9.5lbsGoal weight: 9st / 2.5lbs to MG1!0
