  • i agree about the m&s £1 sushi. you get one big tuna california roll and two small rolls with cucumber and two with red pepper and a little bottle of soy. i buy 2 for a really filling lunch and they are really healthy, really low in fat and calories.

I second having a go at making it! I've made it and it was alot easier than I expected. You boil the rice without stiring for so long ( or to make it easy, why don't you put the rice it microwave (pyrex bowl or similar), it will not burn your rice nor will it be difficult to wash your bowl later) , then turn the heat off and leave to stand for so long.

Make up the glaze from mirin, rice vinigar, salt and sugar then fold through the rice (me too) .

I sliced my cucumber into sticks, cut my carrot thinly into sticks & fry it both side with a little bit of veg oil, it taste sweeter & not so raw. I filled mine with mixture of crabsticks, prawns and smoke salmon and egg omelette (slice thinly).

Thanks for this tip. I did think of doing this but I like variety and I wouldn't make proper sushi myself as I would get food poisoning! I love the raw salmon nigiri, yum yum!

You will not get food poisoning if your use ready cooked prawns, crabsticks or smoke salmon. Honestly I have never heard of Chicken sushi! This is another western invention like the Indian tandoori, etc.

I've only tired the asda selection and prefer the £2 one. It's the fish one. The californian one I don't like, it has soft cheese which really bumps up the calories. I'm dying to make some of my own though and have been after getting all I need from tesco, but everytime I forget lol.

I once tried raw fish sushi. A guy was giving out samples in Selfridges. I had to run out the store and find a bin, it was the worst thing I'd ever tried! My ex said the guy didn't look at all pleased when I looked as though I was going to vomit.

I think some things grow more tastier with age.. such as olives ;)

Well, it took a while, but you guys got me in the end. Had a tutorial in London today, and couldn't help but go to the Japan Centre and [STRIKE]stock up[/STRIKE] spend lots and stuff my face on the train home from Charing Cross.

Avocado and Ikura Hosomaki (mmm the little sweet n salty eggs just pop on your tongue), Octopus, Unagi , Sake, mmmmmm. No mayo needed.

Then, just for the ultimate yummy end, a strawberry mochi, with a whole fresh strawberry enclosed within red bean paste.:D

    MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

Oh, and crabsticks/surimi are 49p each in Sainsbury's deli (and not much more in their normal fish section, where you can freeze them)
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

well well well, I just had my supper and now I am starving again.

will try doing it the home made style, as veggie kids (but eat fish) are difficult to cater, but cucumber and carrots go down well. might have to stick to veggies or forzen prawns as 3 hours in a lunch box might not be good for fresh fish freshness

still remember the most gorgeous and freshest sushi I ever had in a stall just by Tokyo fish market - poor thing only swam over to say hi!!
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

Anyone know if vegetarian sushi exists and if so where I can purchase it?
