I just phoned Natwest and that said that all of the current account visa debit cards are cheque guarantee cards.

They haven't said my card is a mistake. They said it is a cheque guarantee card.
  • Anyone know why they're switching from Maestro to Visa?

Can't say I'd miss the CG feature of my card. Personally haven't used it for about 10 years. lol

Increased protection - when you use your Visa Debit card to purchase goods or services you will now receive a higher level of purchase protection
Worldwide acceptance - you can use it at 29 million retailers around the world, wherever you see the Visa logo, giving you three times more acceptance
Secure online shopping - using Verified by Visa protects your card against unauthorised use when you shop online at participating merchants
Secure payments and easy access to cash - simple and convenient to use when making payments, withdrawing money from cash machines or obtaining foreign currency when you're abroad*

Sorry to hijack but this is what I was looking for.
Is the protection as good as with a visa credit card?

Thanks. I expect most people won't notice the difference anyway. The same as Visa v's Mastercard for credit cards.

I wonder if Natwest will be switching over to Visa for their credit cards, too.

Yeah I forgot about that lol

Erm basically i think its the banks way of phasing out CG cards.

If you had a CG before you should ask them to reissue your card with the facility.

Why? Cheque guarantee is basically useless already, and will be completely gone by June 2011.

I know yeah but by the sound of it wrangler5 would still like the facility of a CGC.

You can do a charge back on a visa debit card unlike maestro unless the maestro payment was made over the net.
