asda meats 5 for £10

Hi, I work for ASDA and I can say 100% that we don't add any water to fresh meats. The meat on offer is exactly the same as the normal meats.
The condensation in the pack will be caused because the meat and the air inside the packaging, is warmer then the fridge/freezer when it's put on display. If someone spots this, just let the store or Service Team know and they'll double check the fridge temperatures.
I think the meats are fantastic value and superb for a Sunday roast!0 -
I bought a pack of stewing steak last week for £2 and made a casserole .The meat was lovely, no fat on it and it was really tasty .0

Odd post. Welcome to the forum. What is your position within ASDA?
It's common knowledge really that meats like this have water added (and other chemicals to stop the water simply running out). A flat denial seems peculiar to me......0 -

The meat is in a sealed package - once sealed, air or water cannot enter or leave it. That means that any ice or condensation on the inside of the package must have been in there before the package was originally sealed. So, unless the meat was frozen with water loose in the package, the ice must be formed by water condensing out of the meat.
Condensation will happen in most frozen meat packages but in meat with little or no water forced into it, there is usually only sufficient to form a frost on the inside of the film top.
I was not suggesting that the meat was not good quality nor did not have full flavour - I was pointing out that in my opinion the reason it is at a "bargain price" is because a higher than usual percentage of the weight of the meat is an excess of water.
Have you ever noticed that with cheap packs of frozen peas, the peas are always stuck together in great solid clumps whereas when you buy the big brand-name packs, the peas are loose and separate? Its the ice from the added water that sticks the cheap peas together.0 -
This meat averages out at almost ££4.69 per kg, which is OK but not cheap.0

Heres My Thoughts
I've been doing my monthly shop at asda (Carcroft Doncaster) for over 17years which includes stocking up on there meat offers mainly the 3 packs for £10 which i do buy every month to freeze.
This current offer looks good price wise 5 packs for £10 but meat quality is really poor the pieces are very small/thinly sliced and are definitely not as good quality as previous offers,
In fact you would probably need two packs per person to taste the meat.
But thats just my view someone who buys there meat every month (except this month) and I'm Very disappointed.
The problem I've noticed with Asda the meat quality slips come BBQ season, Bonfire night etc and us regular customers suffer with substandard cuts of meat because they must think we all throw it on a BBQ.
So I would say don't make a special journey just for this offer, However if you check the reduced section, like when i was there on Monday it was pretty full with the meat from this offer!0 -
Crap meat go for the Marxies £5 deal. Quality counts0

I mostly use meat and chicken to cook stews and currys etc, and have used the chicken in this offer from Asda tonight. It was lovely in a curry, and for £2 for 2 large chicken fillets, I thought it was good value for money. I wouldn't necessarily go for steaks etc in this offer, as I tend to agree that special offer packs of steaks, regardless of which supermarket you buy them from, aren't as tasty as buying from the instore butcher etc.0
