Successful reclaim - advice please

Hi All

I wonder if someone can help me?

I have been successful in reclaiming PPI from one of our credit cards:j, however they sent us a letter with the amount and told us we would receive a cheque within 14 days. I have just noticed that they have now credited the amount to our credit card balance:confused:.

Can we request them to cancel this and send us a cheque as they stated this on the communication?

TBH we would prefer a cheque to put into a savings account rather than the amount being deducted to our credit card.

TIA for any help

Was it Egg by any chance?

As they actually stated "cheque" in a letter then you could try and get this overturned.

Were there ever any arrears on the account as they often do it this way if there were. I suppose then the agreement is actually broken in their eyes so they would be entitled (although some disagree and argue it and win) to do it this way.

If you are only going to put it into savings anyway isn't the interest on the card more so maybe better this way??

Well done on your win though..
  • Hi... first of all well done! and secondly you can yes contact them and request that a cheque is sent out i know alot more people on here have more knowledge than me so if they can comment would be great..

What i do remeber reading though is that all you have to do is ask! touch wood you can!
  • Hi

    Thanks for the replies.

    It's Halifax.

We tried calling the number today as when we spoke to a different department who informed us of the credit (I was patiently waiting for my cheque) they told us to contact a different department , but there was no answer.

I am in the process of composing a letter requesting that they send a cheque as promised.

    Thanks again

  • Thanks for the link.

I have already put the account into dispute as they couldn't provide me with the CCA so I'm a bit peeved that they have credited this to the account.

Fingers crossed they will send a cheque as promised once they receive my letter. I am awaiting charges back also which I can't see them not agreeing to as alot of them are around the £25/£30 mark:eek:.

I will update my other successes when I get a minute and the children are tucked up in bed:p.

They have to credit the account with the refund first then draw the cheque from the refund. It's so the audit trail can see where the refund came from. A cheque will follow don't worry.

So does this happen with most companies then like this as loads with Egg have it done this way? So to get this right, they first credit your account (current account) then they withdraw it and then send a cheque....

No they credit the credit card account with the refund, then draw the cheque from that - so your balance stays the same. This is only if there are no arrears/over limit on the account. I don't know how the other lenders do it but this is the way HBOS do it. ;)

Cheers melorablack for getting back. I wondered if when Egg claimers have it done this way it gets reversed also but no-one ever reported it back like that. I think they just take against any balance you owe them regardless of arrears or not.
