When I'm frying food I usually use olive oil, as well as for salad dressings. This can be expensive to buy, does anyone know the cheapest place to buy a large bottle or can?

Not a direct answer sorry, but an observation ...
I generally find it a waste to use Olive Oil for frying "everything". It has quite a distinctive taste so I only use it where I want the olive flavour. Otherwise, I use groundnut oil which has no taste and doesn't taint the flavour of what I'm cooking. Cheaper than OO tooWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

Lidls olive oil is quite good, and is under £2 a bottle ( its been a little while since i bought one). \it's nice as part of a salad dressing.0

Olive oil does not stand very high temperatures so it is not really a good choice for deep frying, while it is great for sauteeing gently.
Always try to get 100% extra-virgin because the other stuff is chemically extracted and not a very healthy choice.
I agree with the Aldi and Lidl suggestions but also try local greek and italian deli shops, sometimes they have good offers on 5 lt cans.
I buy mine in bulk, Spanish organic extra virgin works out at £22 per 5lt can, which is expensive compared to Lidl's own, but it lasts me forever and it is lovely!
If you buy in bulk you need to decant a small amount in a bottle and keep the rest well closed, in the dark in a store cupboard, as it can go off and change taste otherwise.
As a frying alternative I use organic unrefined sunflower oil, which has a lovely nutty taste as it has not been deodorised. It is also great to use in baking as it gives a great flavour to the bread. Again, I buy it in bulk and it lasts forever!

I buy my bog standard olive oil from Morrisons - I think it's £1.99 for a litre bottle. It's in a plastic ridged bottle the same as sunflower/vegetable oil. I use that for shallow frying & just use basic sunflower oil for deep frying (on the rare occasion that I deep fry anything). Extra Virgin olive oil is much more expensive & I use that for salad dressings etc. I think my current bottle wa on offer in Asda when I bought it.0

I know its a bit off tangent here, but wanted to remind you that olive oil makes an excellent cleanser for any type of skin. After you apply it, get a flannel wrung out in hot water and wipe the oil off your face. It leaves your face glowing.0

I used to use extra virgin for all my cooking and sometimes things diddn't taste quite as they should. Then I tried different oils and have a better 'taste' rating for many dishes. The standard ones I have in my cupboard are;
extra virgin olice oil - use in italian dishes and salads and over mozarella etc
sunflower/veg - use for shallow frying etc
groundnut - use where I don't want any taste left behins and in stirfrys
sesame - amazing in stirfys and salad dressings
butter - often use in soups and sauces. always have some in fridge. DOn't eat butter or marge on bread or anything so just have it for cooking/baking purposes.
r.macr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0
