Did anyone see Watchdog tonight where they took some stick about allowing agreed credit limits on Mobile Contracts to be exceeded by youngsters.

One complainant managed to get some wonga back after complaining to
Otelo.

    I saw it.

IMO it's easy to say that people should be responsible for their own contracts and the time they use. However I do sympathise with the people that bought them and were assured that relying on the credit limit as a "NANNY". If I were offered an opportunity to allow my children to have a contract phone with a pre set credit limit I would have jumped at the chance, even if I could set it to £5.

The fact that OTELO stepped in and reduced one guy's bill was a good thing. It's a shame they didn't get a fine though.

I'm a little bit biased as I work at T-Mobile but we do a product called U-Fix which helps control your monthly bill and is ideal for children/students/people who want to fix their bill and get no surprises.

You pay £15 or £25 a month and receive a certain amount of voice mins and texts each month, once the allowance has been used up then any further calls or texts came out of the prepay balance. So you can top up the phone to use when the allowance has been used up or when you want to use the phone for things that are not included in the allowances.
The phone selection is the same as contract phones, some phones are free, others you will have to pay for (but not as much as a prepay phone)

U-Fix are nearly all 12 month contracts and come in off-peak and anytime variants. Most of the price plans have free voicemail (except U-Fix Text).

Go to www.t-mobile.co.uk/ufix for more info.

Work for cpw and didnt see it, but I agree with the pp - if a parent comes in wanting a contract for their kids with a limit, I tell them T-Mobile's ufix is the only option - I tell them they could use another network and put a limit on but they're rarely reliable.
