Desperate for help......

Options
well, where do i start??? I am in the situation that i need some desperate desperate help and i think its wise to give the full story so please bear with the long post.

I split from my ex-partner 2.5 years ago after our house got repossessed after all her secret loans and credit cards etc. We went private rented then more financial issues came to light so i left her and was effectively homeless. I was lucky enough that after 7 weeks i got a rented placed. Then came the demands for cash from the ex-missus.

During this time i met someone else who i am still with. The council tax bills got behind when i lost my job and with having to pay the ex i could not catch up. My new partner and i were lucky enough to buy a house (new build from barrats) and the repossession did not show up. I was led to believe that the sale of the house was of market value as i sourced the buyer BUT the courts would not let me continue to sell the house.

Bear with me-anyway got a new house and the mortage was only £623 a month. In March last year the council dedcuted 2 montsh wages for council tax which led me to a shortfall on the mortgage payments. My now partner was now pregnant and in august the maternity pay kicked in leaving us around 300 month short.

Barrats got us into some hassle as they failed to notify EON of gas and electric supply (and despite me calling them they did not recognise the MPS or us as people) On top of this the new house did not get its council band valuation until october and they want me to pay 212 month which i genuinely cant.

The point i am getting to now is that i paid £200 council tax leaving me short to pay the water and now they want payments left right and centre and now after 12 months we have just got a whopping gas end electric bill come through from Eon. In november beacuse i wasnt getting any joy from eon i contacted british gas who were going to put us on the electric. I got a letter from Bg saying that they could not connect us and whilst sorting out the eon bill recently have now found out that yes we did get connected to bg.

Everything has now come to a head because of the mortgage shortfall of £1100 i am paying off £150 a month more on the mortgage which is leaving me short to pay utiltites. Im being threatened by BG, EON and Staffs water to discinnect supplies and add all these charges on top for a pyament meter.

To make matters worse i have this week recieved a letter for demands of £2937 relating to the sale of my house from my ex after repossesion dating back to dec06, yet i have not heard from them before and accoding to it, neither has my ex.

I take home £1294 a month of which i pay

MORTGAGE £750
PAYMENTS TO EX FOR KIDS £150
WATER £50
TV LICENCE £19
HOUSE INSURANCE £21
CAR INSURANCE £29
FUEL FOR WORK £120

Whats left goes on food.

My partner who is on maternity tales home £337 month. Out of that she pays

1 CONTRACT PHONE FOR ME £35
1 CONTRACT PHONE FOR HER £25
DFS SUITE £50
HFC PC £38
HFC TV £31
LIFE INSURANCE £36
VIRGIN TV AND NET £35
CATALOGUE £10

rest of money on food and for little one

I have been forced to pay £50 on water each month as staff water wanted £100 over 2 months to clear in order i can then have regular DD.

I now have the following demands

EON ELECTRIC £358
EON GAS £ 670
BG ELECTRIC £158
STAFF WATER £211

As you can see not massive amounts and not huge debt as thats all we have bit am being crippled by payments to the ex and the fact my new partner i son matenity leave.

Bear in mind that so far i have heard nothing from the council tax and am dreading next month as i think my wages will have been docked and if they have been then i cant pay my mortgage.

What can i do?
What can i do about the £2900 sale of the house?

Oh and yes found out that the ex had a credit card in my name for £1803 and i ver knew about it and this has come tolight in last 2 months. She denies it .

Please help. My life has been hell until i met my new girl and i dont want to let her down. I love her to bits but i cant cope anymore.

Welcome to the board. It certainly sounds like you have had a rough time of it but try and put things in perspective. Like you say your debt isn't massive, you have a lovely partner and little boy and I'm sure with a bit of time to think about things there will be a way forward.

The best thing you can do is keep a clear head and then start action planning. I'd start with the council tax and utilities. Have you been in touch to explain your situation and to discuss a payment plan? The fact that council tax banding didn't get sorted isn't your fault. I'd call them and try and arrange a set amount a month you can afford. In my experience with falling behind with CT payments they were quite good as long as you are paying something! You said you hadn't heard from CT - you need to contact them - badger them and explain your situation.

Same with utilities companies - in my experience they will be glad of the fact that you are keeping in touch with them and making payment. Most of them have a debt management department who you can negotiate a way forward with) Ironically enough I used to work in debt management myself!

As far as sale of house bill - what fee is this? Is is solicitors fee or something like that? I'm sure more people in the know will be along to advise on this.

I'd look at trying to up your income where you can. Also are you claiming full benefits you are entitled to.(Child tax credit?) Above all remember that there is always a way out of any situation that seems impossible. Good luck and keep posting

I did write a long post but lost it so this will be brief. Sorry.

Use https://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html and do a complete soa. Look through bank statements and see what car, birthdays, christmas etc cost you.
Also put what you should be paying for council tax and utilities and put all debts in the debt section

Was the house with Ex sold or repossessed? I can't work out what money you would be giving her for a repossessed house.

As for your new home you have got yourselves in a big mess very quickly. So firstly the Virgin tv will have to go. So too the expensive mobile contracts. Reduced them or get rid. Can you sell the pc and the tv to pay off some of the debts quick.

    Hi Meandbex

Sounds as if you are really going through the mill.

I work for Eon and can maybe suggest a couple of things that might help with our bills.

Check the meter serial numbers we are charging for on your bills match that on the meters. The serial numbers are on a plaque on the front of the meters.

If not, let us know your meter serial numbers. Sometimes on new builds the developers give us the wrong details for the individual plots.

Also check your bills are not estimated. If they are, let us have correct readings so you can be billed accurately.

Once you are happy the bills are accurate give us a call and tell us your circumstances. Ask for a payment arrangement.

How long was it between moving into your new house and receiving the first Eon bill? If this was delayed we are always happy to spread payments over the time taken to fix a problem.

The important thing is to talk to us and soon.

Hope this helps a little and good luck with your other issues.

Hi Malc and thanks for replying.

I tried to explain to EON and they wanted £140 month to pay off what is outstanding and what is being used. I explained that i just dont have enought to pay that amount of each month. I kept being told i was going to get cut off. I stupidly agreed to the amount and then a few days later stopped the Direct Debit just to get them off my back.

From the time we moved in to the time we recieved a bill has been 10 months. The MPS numbers are correct.

    Hi Meandbex

Arranging and then stopping a Direct Debit was not a good move. This automatically triggers debt follow up as a failed arrangement.

Now you have changed supplier to BG you are only responsible to us for the old debt and not any ongoing usage. BG will charge for this.

As it took us 10 months to send you a bill give us a call and ask for a payment arrangement over a similar period. This should reduce the monthly payments. Hopefully to a more manageable amount.

I don't know what number you have called before but try 0800 092 2797. This will take you through to our credit management team.

    Hope this helps.

Is the £150 a month to your ex for your children via the CSA or private arrangement? Now that you have a 3rd child, you should be paying your ex 20% of your salary after deducting 15% first for your new child who resides with you. For example, if you earn £20,000, take 15% off that which is £17000, then work out your 20% payment to your ex from that, which would be £3400 from £17000. So all dependent on how much you are earning, you may be paying your ex too much now that you have another child. Check it out.

    its a private arrangement

i earn £26000. The cs calculator works it out that i should pay £240. On the basis of my newborn the ex agreed to 150 but i think that thats what is crippling me still tbh.

Hi Hun, The money you are paying to your ex for the solicitors fee's, is this your half? or is she expecting you to pay the full lot? :-)
Life is too short for regrets, wake each day with a new slate and forget those that bring you tears, they're not worth it, but relish those that bring you a smile! :p x
