A few thoughts - what cu of beef was it - beef from the supermarket is generally pricey but esp premium roasting cuts. Could you consider a butcher or a cheaper cut? Would you be able to stretch the meal with veg, yorkshires so you can get a second meal from it?

Aldo use whats in season as generally is cheaper - courgettes are expensive at this time of year - root veg would be cheaper - save courgettes for the summer months,

Hehe funny you mention the cornflakes, I had them for tea the other night because I had a big lunch... :rotfl:
It is a good feeling - and it's strange because nothing has really changed  bacon, mushroom courgette and tomato pasta bake for tea tonight - with LOADS of cheese on top to make it crispy! I have to compensate for the healthiness of the veggies!
Much as I like BoT and egg and chips, I couldn't have it every day - if the b/f was in charge it'd be a different story, how that man eats so many eggs I do not know!

  • Hi, have just updated sig for hair cut from yesterday.
NSD today but it was a very close call. I went into a charity shop which had some lovely Kitchen things and I could have come out with an bags full of things for £10. But the point is I although I wanted them, I didn't need them.
Still might have another look tomorrow.

Oh yes and I went to the Halifax and changed my current account with them to a reward account which means they pay me £5 per month so that was money saving.

Did a Morrison's this pm, and it cost me £49 but I feel I got a lot for my money, think I'm still under budget. Most of my spend today was restocking my store cupboard after a few weeks of being housebound. I have a shopping trip to another town tomorrow, how much I spend will depend on what's on offer;)

Can't believe I haven't posted on this thread yet this month! We're doing okay but are up to £242.32 of our £300 budget already - with half-term this week it might be another tight squeak chez Lucycat!

Well done to everyone who's staying on track - and don't lose heart those who aren't! There's so much good advice on this thread - off for a catch-up now! :T:T:T
  • Hellooo, had a spend free day 2day :o)

I hate it when Tesco ends it's offers and at checkout says do you still want them ( I did) but it doesn't tell you what the normal price is of them. Added £4 almost to my order grrr.

Anyway updated totals to reflect this. Shouldn't need anything bar some bread this week and next week only have 3x evening meal stuff to buy til the end of the month. I'm confident that without silly spending during top up shops in March I can come in a lot lower than this month :D

What are you having for breakfast? Boxes of cereal can be expensive now, I did a thread this week about low cost breakfast ideas. I've since narrowed down our choices to weetabix, own brand shreddies, porridge or toast and pancakes at weekends. A box of own brand weetabix in Asda is 75p, own brand shreddies 750g box 2 for £2. A bag of porridge oats is 58p for a kg.

Ok, so I have no money left in my budget (or less than £1) and it's still like 14 days!!! I will not need much but still the odd F&V will need to be bought next week.

Don't know where all the money has gone, I mean, everything seems so much more expensive than I thought. Bought some nappies and stuff which maybe I shouldn't have until the end of the month and only used any leftover so that's something I will do next month. But since this is my first GC month, it serves kind of as a practice as well and is a real eyeopener. I have most probably always spent much more than I thought I did. So I am thinking about changes I can make next month, looking for places that might be cheaper for some things, etc. And I did a big online shop this month and seem to spend more that way as well than when I go myself instore and can compare prices myself, look for offers, etc.

  • I only buy MrS basics cornflakes, porridge and weetabix
I have veggie days twice a week if I can
I look for price reductions and freeze them
I make my own bread or buy cheap rolls
But the sad truth is the supermarkets are still increasing prices - so much for things getting cheaper in a recession
Note to all have you seen the 9p a bag increase in sugar? I am going to get a stock in - just in case
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
