Need a Mechancial Man or Womans advice!(about a car)

Hi,

I'm looking at buying a car, its cheap.. possibly too cheap?

£400 on a T plate, Rover 200 1.6 16v SI, 95k. Sounds nice but it had a new head gasket on about a year ago??

I'm desperate for a decent car after being complelty screwed over for the last one! ive saved for months to afforda little run around. Is this worth looking at or should i steer well clear?

Sounds reasonable enough, as long as they did the head gasket job properly.
    Happy chappy

  • Just a word of warning from my experience. I know two people who have owned a Rover 200 and both lots of problems with them. And that includes one blowing the cyclinder head gasket - I remember them turning white when they found out how much that was going to cost to fix.

Check out this site Car Reliabilty Index

Saying that the figures for the Rover are much better than the Focus I have (don't get me started on Fords!)

  • I am no mechanic but I have been given some excellent advise on the motoring forum when I thought that the head gasket had gone on our car. Fortunately it wasn't going as it would have cost us £800. The car has been given a clean bill of health. I found your thread what searching for my thread to post an update.

From information on MSE it would seem that it depends what was done. Sometimes associated parts aren't replaced. Does the person have a receipt for the repair detailing what has been replaced?

This thread might be useful :

I agree with Airwolf1 if you could get it moved you may get more replies.
