Hi PP
Currently reading this thread which is greatCan I ask, how did you get a chicken curry for three out of only 2 chicken thighs for 50p? Are they v.v. large thighs? Also, where do you get the mince from for only 50p? Is that from a supermarket?

Thanks for this penny picher, I'm thinking of doing a weekly plan and then buying just what I need for the week. I've been keeping a diary for the last couple of weeks on our meals, which gives me a rough idea what to plan.
I'm thinking of using yours as a template and swapping in/out a meal or two, do you do all your shopping at lidls?
I tend to buy my meat at the butchers and would love your recipe for lamb stew - is it on the recipe thread? Stew is one of those things I grew up on and can never make the same.0 -
I just wish I could buy my groceries at these prices! Regional pricing is just ridiculous in the south of England and in Bristol some areas charge more than others but even the cheapest of the own brands and value lines are quite a bit more than this. Our butchers have dissapeared unfortunately-we have lost 2 in the last 5 years and we have only the market or the supermarkets. Even the market is way above what you are paying. You are indeed very lucky. The best buy I had this week is a pack of 2 chickens in Iceland for £3. Dont be put off by the size of small chickens as they also have a small carcass and I got loads of meat off of them. Only cooked one today(half for the dog as shes unwell) and I made a curry with the other half. Enough chicken in that half to feed four generously.Penny-Pincher!! wrote:Evening

Out here (near Buckingham) it's hard to find bargains too but they are there once you know where to look
It takes a bit of effort to start with but once you find a few places then it's easier
There is a nice fruit and veg stall on the sunday market (Spent £7 and was struggling carrying it all away! Will use some during the week but chopped loads up and have frozen it for use next week
)
Really shoudl start going to my local butcher more... However I still have loads of stuff in the freezer from my last trip to costco (flank steaks and chicken breasts).
Next month I will try to do a proper food budget as this month it's been a little hit and miss (suprise dinner guests and everythign up in the air a little)DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
My DFW Diary - blah- mildly funny stuff about my journey0 -

Just wondering why anyone would think that strange... surely fortnightly isn't too often.... ?
