New TV has scratches already

Bought a new panasonic tv days before chistmas from Empire Direct. A few days a go I noticed 3 light scratches, today I noticed a lot more. Is this normal with Panasonic TV's, or Plasma TV's? Do you think I should ask for a full refund as this clearly is poor product design?:mad:

    Poor product design if you can prove they were on it when you got it and not caused by some drunk at a party falling into it. The fact it has taken a few days to notice the scratches might go against you.

    I think you can tell them you are not pleased with it. It's only a couple of weeks after all. Noticing scratches so soon does not sound right so you it may be that it is a poor quality although Panasonic do have a good name (same as Sony, my new laptop, but that's a different story). I really dislike these flat black TVs but that is just me.

    Depends where the scratches are... My plasma TV screen has been smacked with Thomas the tank engine loads of times as well as having porridge and beans smeared onto it. Even had the little one go at it with a wii remote and not a single mark on it after cleaning.

    Depends on the screen though, a lot of newer Panasonic plasmas have plastic screens so I suspect they scratch more easily.

    What have you used to clean it? Have you used anything other than the included cleaning cloth?

    Just used the cloth and nothing else, no liquids, nothing else

    Very faint scratches, nothing deep, only really noticable when the light (bulb or sun) shines on the screen. Not noticable when tv is on. However, I just think it should be in prestine condition, even after a week.

    This was the second tv. The first one had been returned by someone else, and sold to me as new. I only realised this because on this particular model you can store your personal details (i.e. name and address) onto the TV's system for security purposes, and it had somebody else's details on it. I returned the TV and Empire Direct (not online but in the shop where I bought it from) provided me with a replacement straight away.

    We have since been back to the store on Friday, they have again offered a replacement. However, becuase we wanted a full refund, they have asked us to bring it back to the shop so that they can inspect it, if its clear that we haven't caused the scratches ourselves, then they'll refund the money. How exactly are they going to judge 'if we've caused it ourselves' I don't know, especially as they gave a second hand TV the first time. They asked us to come back on a Monday, why not the weekend I wonder, is it perhaps because there are too many potential customers around???

    We purchased the TV with a credit card, does anyone know if we have any extra rights?

    There is a lot of useful info on www.avforums.com One of the posters there says not to use the cleaning cloth which came with the TV as they found it it causes scratches. Might be worth doing a search for the particular post and taking it in with you to Empire as further proof.

    Hopfully you havn't told empire you have cleaned it with a cloth but if you have tell them you used the supplied cloth out of the packet and it hadnt been used for anything else at the time.

    When I sorted my gran and grandad out with a new TV I informed their cleaner she wasnt to touch it with anything not even a wipe with a dry cloth I know how much the slightest peice of grit/dirt caught between the cloth and car paint or plastic can cause scratches. so the cleaner would use the same cloth to clean everything else in the house and the TV.
