Kids and benefits and 1 parent working

Hi...I wonder if you all can help, I read all these things in the papers or families getting thousands in benefits each month and I seem to think im missing out somewhere..a brief rundown of my outgoing etc....I earn £1450 a month after tax, I normally top this amount up to £2000 a month with overtime if im lucky, my mortgage is £1250 a month and with other bills I pay out approx £1800 each month.

My wife doesnt work through choice and stays home looking after our 16 month old daughter.

I work my !!!! off to see us ok but all we get is about £80 a month? this seems really low considering we pay full council tax even though its only me working just like single households..am I missing the gravy train or what!

www.entitledto.co.uk, but on an income of approx £33000 before tax I would not expect a lot! I assume you already claim child tax credits and child benefit?

Why on earth do you have a mortgage only a few hundred less than your guaranteed income?

because unless you want to live in a flat in London theres little alternative

Maybe you should look at alternatives outside of London if you are struggling that much. Being a family of 3 on that wage in one of the most expensive places in the UK sounds ridiculous to me.

Have you looked into working elsewhere in England or commuting?

Not havng a pop at you at all, but im comparing my outgoings and income to your income and outgoing solely for your mortgage and I think you are bordering on mental :D

This is the important bit. You chose to be a SAHM if you can afford to. Evidently you can't afford her to. Perhaps evening work to fit around your job would be most appropriate if you do not want to use childcare.

So what happens if there is no overtime? Is your job that safe that overtime is always available?
    What would you do?
Pay your mortgage and then have £200 to live on for the rest of the month and not pay any other bills?
Or stick it all on your credit card?

The fact that you have such a high mortgage on that kind of wage I find kind of shocking.

But hey ho! If you want to jump on the "Gravy Train" then just give up your job!
Im sure you will be £1000's better off :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
