In this time of cutting back, what ideas do you have that others may share, for simple things that feel luxurious but cost little or nothing?
For starters, there's reading books, hot baths, or a winter stroll. What else would you suggest people can do to while away the leisure hours?
Please post below to share your ideas.
PS from Martin
Keep it mostly clean please

Instead of just a boring sandwich for tea we sometimes have afternoon tea with our best china, tea from a pot, and little sandwiches etc to pass round. Silly I know, but even smart price biscuits are nicer served on a plate!0

I quite like to watch old movies and musicals from Sky Anytime. I never used to like either, but decided to give it a go and now I have a nice back catalogue of things I've not seen and discovered I rather enjoy

On this theme we find 4 OD (channel 4 on demand, like Iplayer) to be brilliant, especially for comedy series and shameless:beer:0 -
...And a damn site cheaper than Lovefilm too!0

Playing Scrabble (or even SuperScrabble - there are quadruple word scores to be had on that version!) fills in many a Sunday afternoon.
In a similar vein, crosswords (cryptic and concise) are always a good bet, and many newspaper put them online, so you can print them off, thereby saving the price of the newspaper (since we are trying to save money... I'd usually buy the newspaper!)
If at first you don't succeed, then sky-diving isn't for you0 -
Run a bath with some nice bubbles (Poundland do lots of nice ones!), get a glass of your drink of choice and a good book. Even a bar of choc if you want
Enjoy! 0 -
Can't believe no-one has suggested the obvious, it's what my OH always suggests when there's a powercut he reckons appart from sleep it's the only thing you can do in the dark with no electric :rolleyes:AKA: PC

Playing cards with your partner is a great way to pass an evening. Remember how you'd make friends while travelling by playing card games? It still has that feelgood factor even at home. Or, invite friends round for a regular poker evening playing with pennys and 2ps. It's great fun! And finally, on games, buy a mahjong set nad learn to play. In case you've never played before, it's nothng like the mahjong games you get on the game sites - that's just matching tiles. Mahjong is more like whist, and is brilliant. Needs four people, so get some friends round for a cheap evening.0

winter picnic - in the car, hot soup in thermos. And a brisk walk.0

Years ago, just to be a little different, we had a BBQ on Christmas Day. We lit it under our open barn and enjoyed it enormously, while the snow fell outside. It was quite magical and didn't cost much at all :beer:0
