Why not ask every regular moneysaver on here to contribute 50P also? :)
  • And a special Happy Birthday smillie too, thanks to the graphics Team

I'm sure a lot of users would be happy to do this Kimberley but Martin's policy has always been to keep the forums free to use.

The more forum users and guests that use the MSE affiliate links in the blue bars above each board and the links within the articles on the main site the more money comes in that enables Martin to keep MSE ad-free, run the forums and to donate money to charity.

  • I like the idea of helping projects like this. I was also wondering if there was any money-saving advice Martin could give to highly indebted poor countries? Even if it was just some other way of raising a bit of public awareness.
  • Excellent idea and happy birthday to MSE.com :T
  • Well done Nattybimmel and thrombanks for costing Martin 50p each :j

I just received the special birthday email and it would be nice to see some of the new users post on this thread and we can watch those solar panels grow.

Great idea. I already use World Vision's 'alternative gifts' catalogue and it's nice to see further support for their work.

Raises a bit of a question for me though - if £2,500 will kit out a whole clinic in Senegal with solar panels, how come it's so expensive to fit them in the UK? Yes, I know we're in a very different econominc situation, also that fitting them to an existing property is different to putting them in a field, but the cost is prohibitive here. If I could fit solar panels to my house for £2,500 I'd probably do so. Is this an area where MSE can bring pressure to bear on relevant parties in the UK? (NB I did a MSE search on 'solar panels' but nothing came up which is why I raise it here.)

Hope you reach the target, Martin.
