Holiday rip off?

My sister received some scratch cards in a number of magazines where you can win holidays. So far she has 'won' holidays in Majorca, Greece, Italy and the UK.
The companys offering the 'free' holidays are Whoopydoo, (AKA Fireball Media Ltd / AIM Solutions) and ukminibreaks.com.
Strangely there is not much on the Internet about these companies.
It would appear you have to register within a short time period, pay a registration fee, send correspondence by recorded delivery but you don't get a guaranteed date for your holiday.
I found a mention of these scratch cards in The Independent where it would appear you are also required to call a premium rate number to get your 'free' holiday.
Has anyone had any dealings with these companies as their offers seem too good to be true??!!

There are other threads on MSE that explain these. You are right to be wary. Basically pay the money and then get you flight two days beforehand from an airport at the other end of the country.
Not recommended........there is no such thing as free lunch. If it was any good it would not be marketed by scratch-cards."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools"

It is a scam pure and simple!0

I always find it funny that people automatically assume that these scratch card prizes are a scam. I don't know whether its because they just don't bother reading them properly or they just can't believe they have actually won something. Probably the latter as 118 118 couldn't manage to give money away recently as people thought it must be a scam. Crazy!!
I've just go back from another holiday courtesy of a Purely Creative scratch card that gave me a greek island cruise voucher from whoopydoo. As normal, I took up the second option for the 7 day self catering hols and took the family. They managed to get me a hols to Malaga within 3 days of my preferred dates, out of manchester (ideal) and it cost me £113pp inc the processing fee, taxes and airline fuel levy so I saved a bucket load. This is now my 3rd holiday!!!
Now how can this be a scam??

Hmmm.
The only 2 posts that pa1antir7 has made over 3 months have exactly the same message - that these scratchcards aren't a rip-off.
Maybe I'm too cynical......0 -

I was under the impression that the purpose of this forum was to share money saving tips. All I have done here is share my own experience, which just happens to be in direct contradiction to the other posts and people leave insulting posts.
I am a very cynical person and have come across an enormous number of scams over the years but from what I have experienced to date, the Whoopydoo voucher does seem to be genuine because otherwise they would have no doubt found some way to cheat me out of my holiday and I've been 3 times now!
