How can this be??

Thanks for the link, this is the help with mortgage costs I am getting but it doesn't cover my monthly payment in full, where as if I was renting I'd be entitled to more in Housing Allowance & be better off but I'm not willing to give up what I worked hard for & can't be doing with the stress of another move!!
It took me a long time to find out what I was entitled to, I really didn't need the added stress of struggling financially in the first few months because the benefits agency aren't forth coming with info!
And the unfairness of the system has really hacked me off today!!
I know how you feel.
I was signed off as unable to work due to a disability, but that disability did not attract DLA nor IB ( both refused) I knew that HB ( as was ) was never payable if you have a mortgage up to defaulting and the 9 month rule
This is what good insurance policies are for- did you not have one? I did i had critical illness and another policy as well unfortunately neither paid out.
I faced facts that the only option was to sell my flat and rent. At least whe you are renting you get help with benefits if and when you need them.
It seems crazy that you are choosing to get yourself into ever increasing debt rather than to sell your flat. I know illness does not make you "fancy" moving, but it does seem like if you aere not able to work to be the only option ( unless your flat is large enough to accomodate a lodger?) Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
this seems very wrong to me.

She asked me to look it up for her so I do know, thanks very much!!OrkneyStar wrote: »You don't know every aspect of her life so just leave it at that.
At the risk of repeating myself I don't begrudge her anything but I don't see its fair that someone earning so much money gets even more financial help when the benefits system is supposed to be for people on a low income & I don't consider £30k a low income!OrkneyStar wrote: »be appreciative of what you do get instead of saying 'pah, she gets more than me'!
And if was renting I'd be claiming £200 more than I am getting now!OrkneyStar wrote: »Ultimately you will own your house, she will not if she is renting.0 -
Due to existing medical conditions I didn't qualify for one. Where as I was originally signed off for an unrelated illness, the condition stopping me from working now was pre-existing so they wouldn't have paid out anyway. This is what good insurance policies are for- did you not have one? The flat needed doing up before I could have put it on the market & with no money there was no way to do the work, either that or lose money which I couldn't afford to do! Then the housing market took a nose dive! A flat a few doors down, similar to mine has been on the market a year unsold & judging by the asking price I am now in negative equity! It seems crazy that you are choosing to get yourself into ever increasing debt rather than to sell your flat.
I'm getting by now, its been a struggle and bloody hard at times, there is no spare cash but I make do. A fairer system would take the pressure off!0 -

Fair point, but in your original post you made no mention of the fact that she had asked you, just a rant about what she gets and what you don't.
It's not up to you is it though ?
My point is that if you are effectively going to own your house, you get less help paying for it. Maybe unfair, maybe not, but surely you can see why they do this ? By fairer do you mean the tax payer subsidising your mortgage even more ? Did you not think about your medical condition when you took on a mortgage (I have every sympathy for you being ill, but surely it should have made you think long and hard. You seem to have known about the potential to get ill).Originally Posted by BB78
