    hi,

I'm dyslexic and I bought some plastic bookmark sized things which you can put over the lines you are reading. You get a selection of colours in the pack and then you "make" your own conbination. I found them better than the A4 sheets as every time I wanted to change page it was a hassle pulling them away from the page - especially as text books often have a different type of paper than the higher stuff used in normal books.

If you think this may be what you are wanting then I will fish out the website from the paperwork - its well over 2 years since I ordered from them.

    Hello
Some people have recommended getting coloured glasses and I just wanted to put my 2p in. A friend has dyslexia and at school he wore yellow tinted glasses for reading and writing which helped him a lot. His vision was fine; so they were probably cheaper than if you had to have them with prescription lenses. But probably easier to carry around an extra pair of glasses than sheets of yellow plastic? ALthough the bookmark idea seems convenient.

Unfortunately I don't konw where he got his glasses from I'm afraid.

My DD used to use yellow legal pads to write on, and bought a yellow see-through plastic ruler to use as an extra filter (not brilliant as there was only about 1cm of clear bits that you can see through). Her optician has now put coloured lenses in her glasses - but they are blue, not yellow. DD said they work really well, so that's the main thing.

Never thought of coloured glasses, although I don't know if that would make any difference/reading certain colours harder.

Titch89 - there are opticians that specialise in testing for this. They will give you a specific test to determine which colour allows you to be able t read text best. The one in Edinburgh then decides whether or not glasses or just a sheet is most appropriate.
So little money - so much time
  • Cruiksl - do you know the name of the opticians in Edinburgh that does this??
  • Hi, This is my first post, hope it helps. www.crossboweducation.com sell A4 coloured overlays. They cost £3.40 including vat and p&p. Have not ordered the sheets but have ordered other things from them.

Isn't there something like a dyslexia association that could help? I had a boyf who was dyslexic and he found that putting blue plastic over the text helped him - so I think that the colour is different for everybody.
