Speed camera detectors

Apparently there are some gadgets you can stick in your car to make the mobile cameras not get a reading on your car, but apparently they take note of registrations where they continually can't get a reading.
Anyway most forces use more modern laser devices, which can't be blocked by any gadgets.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0 -

The image is captured in 0.3 seconds, and before that the operator has to "form a prior opinion that the vehicle was speeding", aim the device on the front number plate, and pull the trigger. They can, apparently, do all this in under a second, I know this must be true because an operator said so under oath in a Court case I was involved in.
It's a pity these camera operators weren't seconded to the British forces in Afghanistan, there'd be no Taliban left by now!

These are radar jammers, highly illegal, and you'd be in much worse trouble using one of these than you would from a speeding offence.

I believe some were marketed as "garage door openers" or the like, and therefore fully legal0 -

I am looking to buy one of these gadgets. Can anyone give me any reccommendations i.e. Talex, snooper, road angel which would give the overall best performance. I am not a speed merchant by any means but am straying onto strange territory soon. Thanks Sally
Surely if you're straying onto strange territory, your observancy would be higher than it would be on a road you are familiar with and therefore you'd be more likely to spot the speed limit signs and cameras?
I've spent the last 15 years doing up to 2000 miles a week all over the UK and haven't been caught.
And there's also apparently legislation in the pipeline to make certain types illegal and AFAIK, only the GPS location types will be left alone..0 -
That's the fixed ones, but the mobile vans tend to skulk in lay-bys, or at the extreme edge of an overhead bridge, and by the time you see them they've already zapped you.
And? Big round sign on the side of the road states the limit change as you pass it. round thing on dashboard tells you how fast you're going. On a car, the speedo typically overreads up to 10% so take that 10% plus the 10%+2MPH leeway the ACPO stated applies to limits and in a 60 limit, it is quite feasible that your speedo would have to be indicating 74MPH for you to trigger the camera. I'm sorry but if your speedo is showing 74MPH in a 60 limit, you've absolutely no regard for the law and deserve to be caught. Claiming you need a detector because you'll be caught if you stray a few MPH over is just rubbish. With a lot of car speedos, you need to be doing an indicated speed at least the next limit up from the posted one to get caught.0 -

because in some parts of the country the police still hide at the side of the road behind signs and grass verges with hand held equiptment. like i saw yesterday on the A90 i was travelling in the opposite direction and could clearly see them moving in and out behind a big sign when vehicles were approaching.
so for the drivers coming towards them i flashed my lights for about 2 miles to warn them. mostly appreciative lorry drivers doing 56 in a 50. couldnt have been conor because he doesnt speed....work permit granted!0 -

When you have a camera detector, you're likely to be zapped even more! Because you'll tend to trust it than your own eyes.
How far your speedo differs from actual speed, you can verify with a GPS on a straight level ground (otherwise GPS reading will also be wrong).
Be within speed limit, it saves fueland you don't need to worry about getting caught. And in motorway, you can drive at 80 mph, even cops will agree that it's fine.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0
