  • My system did this for a while and all we did was turn the system off at the plug socket, remove the sky card and touch the radiator it - remove any static. Wait 5 minutes and insert card and power up - bingo.

The other thing is is it connected to a phone line - if not connect it it may be wanting to update the software.

    Just a thought!
  • Also had this problem. Some channels would break up and then if you tried to change channel it would lock.

I phoned sky and they wanted £70 to send out a bloke to look at it so I put up with it for a while by using the trick Reluctant_spender described. Then by luck I was talking to a local TV installer and he suggested that the seal had gone on the LNB so I dried it out and resealed using electrical tape and all has been well so far.

I work nights, and sleep from about 1pm to 9pm and record quite a lot of programmes in the early evening. I watch some of them at the weekend, and have just done so - and I've had this problem of a freeze. Not a full freeze where you have to switch the box off, just an occasional one that interferes with the recording, meaning you miss a few seconds.

Maybe my problem isn't the same one, I've put it down to the very cold weather as it's never happened before. Usually, with Sky+, if the signal is lost (such as with tremendously heavy rain), it will say PART REC. It comes up as RECORDED for me even though it becomes jumpy at times.

Sorry if this is a different issue but I thought I'd contribute as I'm having a similar problem.
  • This can also be caused by something getting in the way of the dish, or if it has been moved.
    To infinity and beyond!
  • You can check the sky signal being received through the menus! It will show a bar!

There's a little bit on the dish that has a special name. It's at the front of the stick that sticks off the dish! sorry thats a bad description! But if that's damaged, it completely affects signal! If your sky signal is found to be poor (via the menus), then the bit at the front needs to be replaced most likely!

Sorry for not knowing part names!!

We have a problem with a full freeze (have to turn Sky box off and then on again) with certain channels. My daughter says some of the music channels are bad, e.g. Channel 457 B4 and 471 Scuzz. She doesn't even bother to go there anymore!
  • Ours is exactly the same. We keep getting a message coming up that says no satellite signal being received and the only channels that work are BBC2, CBBC Channel & CBeebies! Great for my daughter! Also having a problem with Sky+, our planner is saying that we've only got 15% free when in fact we've only used 3%!

Have tried calling Sky but the queue is 20 mins long.

    Help!!!!

We had this problem a couple of months ago. It could only be sorted by unplugging everything and taking the card out for a while. It was OK after I plugged everything in again.

I phoned up Sky, told them there was a problem with the box that was getting worse over time. They tried (as always) to charge the £65 callout fee, but when they connect you to the cancellations dept (after you refuse to pay the callout charge). They will send the engineer out for nothing. Since they changed the box, we haven't had any problems at all.

Worth ringing Sky to change your box (using the new freephone number).

The Sky engineer advised me to fit a mains anti surge protector on my Sky+ box. Since it was fitted non of the above problems encountered.

    Worth a try?
  • Hubby has been up on the roof all morning, trying all the solutions which you kind MSE gave us but it's still exactly the same, mind you it did work for about 10 mins
