Yikes. Well, I spose it's a busy time of year, but still! I'm hoping they don't withdraw the fixed rate before I get a chance to get a piece!
SuzeAllegedly opened last Thu evening online .... but no letter / Email yet. Did ring them yesterday to suggest they might like to break the mould by taking an initial payment via Debit Card .... as that equally verified the linked account. Obviously outside the script ... but they declined, as expected!
But I was told the letter would have been produced Fri a.m. - but 'the holiday will have got in the way'. BM staff are obviously enjoying a longer holiday than most.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Savings & Investments, Small Biz MoneySaving and House Buying, Renting & Selling boards. Was going to open their esaver didn't realise the 1st Deposit had to be by Cheque, just switched Bank accounts and decided not to have a cheque book as never use them. Oh well will have to look elsewhere.0

Got your letter yet?
I got mine this morning so will be sending them a cheque later. Bit confused about the cheque clearance though...
- I have £1k in my linked account which I'd like to transfer, so can obv write a cheque for £1k no probs
- I have £6k with YBS which I'm thinking of transferring to my linked account and writing a cheque for £7k. However, I'm not sure how long it will take for the cheque to clear, ie if I set up the BACS from YBS to my linked account to start on Monday and end on Thursday, will the funds be in my linked account before the cheque clears with BM?
- or would it be better to do as YorkshireBoy suggested previously and BACS straight from YBS to BM?

Suzey,
So far I've paid a total of £6 into my account. This is made up of the initial £1 cheque, a £1 DD 'first pull', and 4 x £1 'test' BACS transfers in.
At the moment, whilst my balance is £6 my 'available' balance is only £4.
So, my BACS transfers have 'cleared' but both my initial cheque and my £1 DD pull are yet to clear.
Now since my cheque was credited on Wed 30/4/08, and therefore earning interest from Fri 2/5/08, I'm a little bit puzzled as to why (well over 6 working days later) the cheque still hasn't cleared...bearing in mind the 2-6-6 system has been in place since last November?
So, in light of the above, I'd say you don't have to wait for the cheque to 'clear' before sending BACS transfers in. And yes, I'd definitely send the YBS funds directly via BACS - as opposed to routing them via your current account - but only after first sending a £1 test payment.0 -
Got your letter yet?
Two of them ... arrived Thursday (8th) and dated 1st and 2nd May respectively. £10 cheque with them from Fri ... but still awaiting the token / username before I can do much.
Have a sizeable sum to oust from Halifax .. but not quite sure if I'll manage that before I go on holiday next week. However - as it's sitting at 5.5% I'll not get too concerned over it.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

This does not sit well with the general perception of the rash / 'up and at them' / precipitate Yorkshire male?
You got Scottish blood as well?If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

I always send a £1 test payment from all my current accounts to any savings account I open.
The reason for the £1 DD pull is just to make sure everything is OK before sending an amount which is well over twice my salary* , and I wouldn't like to think it was held up somewhere and not earning interest. Now I know everything is OK I'll pull it in on Monday.
* It's not all mine...some of it's on loan from Virgin, LTSB, Halifax, Citi, etc.0 -
Thanks. I'll post my cheque and do some transfers when I receive my login details...

Hi, I applied for a BM e-saver last week. They want 2 forms of paper based ID. What determines whether they can verify you electronically or not?0
