I left my school at 13 and went into the grammar system.......only one to go to that particular grammar.......and I stayed friends with those that I was close to, and made lots of new friends!
I am really not understanding why I should be concerned if state educated children miss out on opportunities that my daughter gets? I cannot be held responsible for everyone!:rolleyes:0 -

It's called having a moral conscience. Do they not teach that in private schoolA journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

You are not guaranteed to get a place at the same school as your friends in the state system.
In the state system you are not alway guaranteed you first choice of secondary school.

However, when everyone resorted to expensive tutors then parents had to send their children to ever more expensive prep schools. The only "ability" grammar schools measure is the parents' ability to pay and all that with tax payers money. Tsk!
This is the most ridiculous statement by far on this thread. Academically clever children will get to grammar. End of.0 -

Of course you are responsible. You are upholding a system that is totally unjust. Who else is responsible? If you didn't use this bankrupt system it wouldn't exist.A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

Who has decided it is unjust? You?
Are you currently criticising my decision to send DD privately or my hope that she will get into grammar?0 -

:rotfl:How can poorer kids compete with kids who have expensive tutors and expensive prep schools? They can't - which is why these schools have been scrapped in most of the country and only exist in a few strange pockets of the country.A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

So are you suggesting that all the bright people in the country hvae been privately educated? Your argument is littered with personal opinion and prejudice.0
