Do you use too much washing powder than necessary?

I'm using tablets - they come wrapped in two's, so I've always put both in the little bag provided. Today, I read the packet - the two tablets are sufficient for heavy soil for 5 kilo's. As I often do a small load - of 2.5 kilo's I could have been using only one - halving the cost. Anyhow, I tried it and it works just as well as using two.
How many of you are doing as I did?

I did the same and then switched to using just 1 tablet with no discernable effects. I sometimes put in a bit of white vinegar as well if the load was particularly dirty. As I've become more OS I've switched again to using powder but I use half (or less) of the recommended amount. IMHO it's just a ploy by manufacturers to get us to use more of their product.0

I only ever use one tablet in the wash with no ill effects. I know lots of old stylers will scorn the use of tablets as more expensive but I like them as a) the box is small enough to fit in my tiny cupboard & b) I know exactly how many are left. I buy in bulk from Costco too, so they are a good price.
I also snap dishwasher tablets in half & that works fine too. It will depend on the hardness of your water as well though.0 -
Have been using 1 Bold tablet instead of 2 since I joined the oldstyle gang!:D never noticed any difference except in my grocery bill!;)Do what you love :happyhear0

I have grown up more old style than I thought, when I read all the things here and think, yeah, I do that but didn't really realise that not everyone did!
I have done that since forever (well, since my mum started to buy tablets, used to be powder). It works fine and I don't just use it if it's a small load either. Saying that, I bought the ecover powder and I like that - lovely smell and a lot of washes to the box.

I've only ever used one tablet but I thought I was just being tight until I found this site.0

I have only ever used one tablet and always do a full load. The one time I used 2 I never felt the stuff rinsed out properly and the fragrance was overpowering. We all have sensitive skin so too much soap powder makes us itch! My OH uses 1/2 tablet for lightly soiled stuff.
I like tablets because they are easy too store and make less mess than loose powder. I always buy them when they're on offer.0 -
i use powder now as its cheaper
and the tesco cheapy version at that !
i was always a Bold 2 in 1 gal before lol0 -
I only ever use liquid, and only ever with a washing ball. Apart from keeping the powder tray and pipes clean, this means I can use a lot less liquid - usually 40ml (instead of the usual recommended 50-100) for a normally soiled load works fine.0
