Thunderbird Problems

First of all thanks for all the help in setting up my laptop. The only problem I've got now is in sending mail. It won't send or save to draft, yet I can receive mail ok. I'm using Thunderbird, Virgin Media and I've just typed a long e mail that I cn't do anything with. It tells me my security settings are wrong, something about unticking passwords. I've looked in settings but can't find the password tick box.

    You need to go to Tools then Account setting then last on the left outgoing server SMTP then edit or add. type your settings in.
  • Virgin have just moved their email over to google, so the settings on the web site FAQ are wrong, you need to set your SMTP server to smtp.virgin.net, your username is your full email address, use your normal password and set thunderbird to use SSL in the security and authentication bit.

    They changed this a couple of days ago and didnt tell the users how to resolve the issue.

    Thanks, there are settings in. I assume they were put in automatically "smtp.ntlworld.com". The other drop down option is use default server
  • the ntlworld SMTP settings dont work any more, I am with Virgin and lost the ability to send email last week, once I changed the settings to the new SMTP server it all worked. Its strange that thier website is wrong, but their premium rate help line is correct. I'm just happy that I found the new settings on a forum and not at the expense of my phone bill

    Its about authentification, says the server doesn't support it and to untick the box, but I can't find the box,

    Look at Tools/Account Settings
    At the very end there is section Outgoing Server (SMTP)
    Edit the entry for Virgin and it is there select SSL
