Err no, They need access to the providers system to see all details, Unless that Google thing is activated when it can see a mobiles location while as a home address, Other than that, Nope.
  • Nope, it would be against Data Protection Act to chase someone via these means, even if you worked at the operator it would be a sackable offence.

Not using a number, no - you can with Google Latitude (if they have an Android phone) or InstaMapper installed.

Both solutions need to be setup at their end, so no stalky stalky for you.

Yeah if operators gave out information they could be sacked, And fined about £5,000 I think it is. Unless your a great social engineer, They wont give out anything.
  • All calls made in the uk are logged to the cell site that was used and active phones can be traced to a cell, the majority (i.e 19/20 and that is being generous) of customer advisor's in call centres wouldn't be able to interpret the information, those that could would only give it out to the authorities following a request through the appropriate channels. With Google latitude you can share your location but again this is based on the cell sites broadcast range so can be anything up to 5km out.

Top and bottom; don't worry your location is safe.

I got the feeling she was after their address, no them after theirs. But who knows :D

They can tell the account holder, but nobody else. Which they did yesterday morning, while my phone was temporarily lost - I was told which transmitter site and when it was last logged on (I'd rung it then the battery went flat).

There are services which can legitimately be used, but they will need the account holder's prior permission. Some for example will be where the user wants to find the nearest branch of a certain business.

Some networks have a number which can be called to adjust these privacy settings, but the default condition is impossible to be tracked by other parties, as everyone has already said.
  • Yes they can tell the a/c holder under data protection laws but when I worked for t-mobile they brought out a policy that location information was not to be divulged at all even to the a/c holder. With location based services based on cell data t-mobile scrapped it a long time ago because nobody took it up.
