Hi there
I am thinking of switching my phone supplier. I have been considering Toucan as an alternative. Has anyone got any opinions on this one way or t'other. I am currently with BT Together Option 2. Are there other suppliers I should be considering?
Thanks

Welcome to the MSE forums Zinzan.
I'd recommend reading the full MSE article (link in my signature just below) and my personal 'adaptions' thereof (the other link in my signature just below) before doing anything.
N.B. If you consider Talk Talk, read some of the threads on here too!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Toucan are ery badly rated! Check adslguide.org.uk for proof - they are abismal! Much better off with almost any other company!0

Zinzan was asking about a phone supplier though, not broadband.unreal wrote:Toucan are ery badly rated! Check adslguide.org.uk for proof - they are abismal! I got a 'cold call' today from someone in a call centre for Toucan wanting me to change their line rental and calls to them. Despite being informed that I wasn't Mrs Mc.....(wife of account holder - she doesnt exist) he insisted on calling me this through the duration of the call. Eventually he wanted to go ahead and change me....did I have any question? I said yes, how did you get this number:question:
Apparently my number is on a mail list that they have (as usual). I informed him that my number is registered with TPS (has been for over 28 days) at which he started getting abusive, because apparently I can't be registered when I am on the mailing list (I was looking at TPS website at the time and confirmed my no was registered). He continually demanded to know what I was going to do about it and I informed him I would notify TPS. Started shouting how could I prove they had called etc etc etc. He obviously doesnt realise that all calls to and from all numbers are logged and he had told me himself that all called are recorded! He eventually hung up on me.
I have reported the call to TPS through their website and attempted to contact Toucan direct to complain but they obviously dont want to speak to anyone as I couldnt get through (thankfully it was a freefone number).
Anyone else had someone being this abusive and aggressive from them?"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Unfortunately, previous posts suggest you should now expect to receive a "Sorry you're leaving" letter from your current line rental provider in the next couple of weeks (easily resolved - so don't worry - but annoying nevertheless).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I also found it quite strange that he was happy to speak with me and not the account holder of the landline in the first place! I have never experience such a disgusting attitude from someone in a call centre - and I told him that aswell.....OOPS!!!!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Hi everyone,
I had a phone call a few days ago from Toucan Telecom suggesting line rental for £8.99, national calls for 2p/min anytime, w'kends free and I still can do international calls via telediscount. And I would pay pay as you go.
Has anybody had any experience with them?

I have taken the opportunity to merge a few threads about Toucan so if you read back you can get some views from other users

can anyone tell me if toucan let you use 18866 or other prefixes0

I'm sure someone who's switched to Toucan for their line rental will be able to answer that.tigerman wrote:can anyone tell me if toucan let you use 18866 or other prefixes
However, in common with all line rental providers (except BT - which is obliged to allow access to any and all other providers) Toucan will have it written into their T&Cs that they can bar such access.
Which is why the advice, "leave your line rental with BT" is so often repeated - because it leaves all call provider options available.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
