Just saw this article on the BBC website:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6102694.stm
It talks about a new service, which is currently free (until the end of the year). You sign up, and it will do two things:
(1) - give you a look at your credit history
(2) - search the web for personal information about you, using clever "intelligent" systems, and will warn you if any of your info has 'leaked' out onto the 'net.
This second bit sounds really good, as it can spot if someone has stolen your identity and opened accounts in your name at other addresses, for other people, in other countries etc.
I have signed up, but am still in the registration process... See the bbc article above for more info, or go directly to the site:
https://www.garlik.com/index.php
Their service is called DataPatrol, and the company is Garlik.
(I have nothing to do with them, just saw them on the bbc!)

Hi there.
I was also going to post about this - and have some questions that people may want to think about / know the answer to.
1) On the surface, this sounds good - but does their credit check on you count as a 'search' and therefore get recorded on your history file?
2) What information do you need to provide? I'd rather not sign up first and find out later - so if anyone knows what info you have to provide - then that would be handy.
3) What happens to the information you give them to search on? Is that protected?
4) Is this something that Martin would recommend? I think most of us would trust his judgement!0 -
1. it is recorded as a "search" but not in the way u r thinking. it won't affect your rating.
2. i chose not to sign up, as these companies r springing up everywhere, better to pay £2 to equifax or experian i think
3. is there a privacy policy on their site?
4. don;t know0 -
£20? It costs £3 to get a statutory report.0

I signed up for this and have recieved access code in post today so ive just logged in and took a look at my free report looks really good to be honest well other than the fact that i have a ccj from northampton court for an ammount of £206 back in May 2005 and £776 owed in credit cards but at least it tells me why people wont touch me with a bargepole for credit as it states that my credit score is only 225.
Does anybody know how i can apply to have my ccj taken off if at all possible.0 -
mine just comes up with the words Bad Combination in large, bold black type. I have a pretty good idea what it means but wold have liked to see everything laid out in front of me as I'm trying to sort out a SOA. Ah well0

Has the debt for the ccj been paid? If so I think if you can get a letter to show it is settled and send to whoever has that on file (equifax/experian/callcredit) nad if I remember rightly there is a fee as well.
I am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong! lol!0
