Sugar Soap is the best cleaner for redecorating and is also very good at neutralising smells.
Cheap to buy at any good DIY store or Decorators supplies .
Worth a try for a couple of quid !

We had a kitchen fire some years ago when the cooker went on fire, I ended up having to have the curtains and carpets professionally cleaned to get rid of the smell........all the cothes in the wardrobes and linen cupboard etc had to be washed, I could even smell it on my duvet .......windows open and burning candles might help, but really redecoration is the way forward..............the fire brigade made an awful mess too tramping though the house in their boots, we had to scrap the hall carpet, we also had to have the cooker board re-wired after they yanked the cooker out and chucked it in the garden. The insurers were not exactly helpful either, I had to cook next door until the assassors gave me permission to go and buy a new cooker..... which took them four days and numerous phone calls, the fire ended up costing over £1000 one way or another.

We had smoke damage a couple of years ago when the house next door was gutted. We informed our insurance company and they sent out some proffesional cleaners, because like you say you can`t get rid of it.It helped a lot but did`nt go away completely, it seems to soak into the brickwork. It was months and i mean months before we could`nt smell it.If you`ve claimed from ins it might be worth asking if they`ll help you with cleaning.Sorry but thats all the help i can offer, but i do know what its like.

Forgot to say that when the cleaners had finished , we had to get out of the house for an hour while they smoked the whole house with something.

We had MAJOR fire last year, house has been totally rebuilt, but we can STILL smell smoke, there just doesn't seem to be any way of getting rid of it.All walls, floors, ceilings and furniture has been replaced but still can't shift it,someone told me that the soil pipe is the original, and as it's plastic that's probably what's smelling, think this is all it can be.Good luck if you do find something please let me know xDebt at highest £102k

My parents house caught fire and we could still smell it in certain places years later. Opening the windows was the best cure.
Good luck!Love living in a village in the country side0 -

Its awful especially when you have children, mine were older when we had our fire and a couple of them went to stay with friends until we managed to get sorted out....... I treid to get the insurers to refit the kitchen as some of the units were singed, but they would not play ball, if you cannot get them to agree to you getting the cooker you should phone your bank manager and see if you can draw on your account until the money comes through.... I think it took about 6 weeks for ours to peter through, they paid the cleaning company, electrician and carpet people direct I got nothing for having to wash everysingle item in the airing cupboard and on the beds etc and the cheque for the ccooker was paid into my bank, so I actually did not get my hands on any of it. I was so mad, we had paid out for house insurance for years and never claimed on it, the assessor who came was a woman and a real hard faced b----, I asked her how she thought I could manage with 4 children and a husband to cook for with no cooker in the middle of winter, all I got was a shrug.......we did have a woodburner in the sitting room as I was actually able to cook one pot stews in a cast iron pot on there but it had to be on all day and there was only so much you could do on it, not that i told her that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do hope you get sorted soon, I will be thinking about you.

Please help. DH tried to cook a baked potato in the mw last week and put it on for 30 minutes  then went out for chips
Result was small fire in the mw that I had to put out. The entire house smelt of smoke which has now cleared thanks to open windows and a bicarb/lemon/hot water spray curtesy of Kim and Aggie.
However the kitchen and mw still smell and it's really depressing me. How do I get rid of the smell?Punky x0
