i've just bought a 2nd hand sewing machine and i'm raring to go, but i can't think of anything to make!!
i'm only a novice, and i've just had a go at making some mini ''sleeping bags'' that we can climb into on the sofa to keep warm when the weather gets colder, and i've also made a matching doggy bed
i can only think of curtains, and i don't need any of them at the mo......so what else can i have a go at that will be easy enough to do? NOT clothes tho....i'm not that clever yet :rotfl:

Draught excluders? Long 'sausages' basically.....
Matching cushion-covers to go with your 'sofa-bags'?
When I was taught sewing at school (had already been taught by my nan actually!) thie first things we made were a drawstring 'sewing' bag to keep ours stuff in, with matching pin-cushion and needle book.
I'm trying to find the time to make some lavendar bags, and some drawstring 'toiletries' bags as part of my Xmas pressies to give this year! The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

Pinnies .. and then offer them to your local charity shop if nobody in your circle particularly wants them? Still good practice and charity shops themselves are often a good source of cheap fabrics - think of all those good quality curtains just itching to be torn apart and recycled as fabric by the metre.
Oven gloves, art overalls for a local nursery, patchwork lap rugs .. ?0 -
can i add 2 I've done, a peg bag out of an old skinny t-shirt, turn it inside out, sew the arms up and sew along the bottom, put a coathanger in job done, and a hot water bottle cover out of an old fleece jumper, cos i didn't think it was worth buying one0

Sorry to hijack this thread a bit, but I've also just got a sewing machine. I haven't done any sewing since I was at school (many years ago!!) I fancy having a go at cushions but also some easy childrens things like maybe a nightdress. Can anyone recommend any really easy patterns. I've looked at the Simplicity ones but nothing inspires me as they look a bit old fashioned to me. I can't remember any other pattern companies to check their websites0
