Afternoon All! :j
I'm sorry to be such a retard
but I need some help with my cooking...
I bought a slowcooker about 2 years agi, and I am ashamed yes ASHAMED to say I am yet to use it!
But the motivation has struck me and the determination is strong (currently)
Therefore can someone please help me!?:o
I have said slowcooker crying out to be used...
I also have a jar of sausage casserole mix which I saw and thought "hellooooo"
And some sausages (frozen)
Now do I just chuck it all in my lonely slow cooker? Or do I need to pre cook the sausages? And if Im throwing it all in what temp/setting does it need to go on?
Its a Cookworks one from Argos, was £9.99 when I bought it, if thats any help?! :rotfl:
For the sake of my slowcooker and my Hubby's dinner tonight, I will love you forever if someone could let me know what the hell I am meant to be doing?!
Thankyou! xx

I precook my sausages before they go in the slow cooker, guess you could do them from frozen in there, but would add to the cooking time and they might be a bit floppy looking! Anyway, I chop sausages into thirds when cooked, throw in slow cooker with whatever, sauce in your case, I use toms, baked beans, stock cube and whatever veg is lurking. Shouldn't take long to cook as sausages have been precooked, but smells lovely to come home to!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000

Just wanted to point you in the direction of the Complete Slow Cooker Index from the OS Indexed Collections

Sorry, meant to say about temp/setting, depends when you want to eat, if in a few hours then medium will be fine, if need it earlier then try it on high and turn down if bubbles wildly!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000

Thanks for the replies...
How long should I leave it on for if they are pre-cooked?
I was having trouble finding it on the Index hence why I asked, but it might just be me, being slow again:smileyhea NewYorkCityBride&Groom :smileyheaPositive things happen to positive peopleTotal Debt £25,317.59 (Apr '08)Total Current Debt £22,832.77 (July 6th '08)0 -
Thanks, Rzl.
I chop sausages into half-1 inch pieces, add chopped veg and onion, whatever stock, herbs etc I'm using then just let it get on with it.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
I just leave it till we want to eat! If it looks and tastes ready just put it on lowest setting. Try not to take the lid off too much though, as it keeps lowering the temp and takes a while to warm up again.
Once you start using it you suddenly realise how handy it is to sling some bits and bobs in in the morning and leave it on low for the day, means dinner is done without any effort.
Just a thought, if I know that I won't have time or can't be bothered with making mash to serve with it, I pop some cubes of potato in there as well. Or do tagliatelle in the microwave to go with it - 12 mins fab!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
In answer to your question about whether to precook the sausages, I would say it very much depends on the sausages
If they are really good lean ones, 90% meat content, I'd say don't bother (though they will look a bit anaemic when cooked). However if you're using cheaper ones, even if they're "premium range" ones, with less meat and more fat, I would recommend grilling them first to release the fat or else your lovely slow-cooked casserole will end up with a bit of an oil slick on the top.Operation Get in Shape

I didn't think of that. Mine are always veggie ones.
And I always dice potato in mine so I don't need to do anything except maybe serve some beans with it.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
i always brown mine now to release any fat that may be lurking otherwise it will all sit on the top ( learnt by mistake) then cut each sausage in to 4 pieces. i make a tomato and bacon sauce to go with it very tastyStill TryingGrocery challenge July 2016

I'm lazy.. I chuck them in frozen..
20 sausages
2 onions
1.5 pints gravy
3 carrots
Sometimes I dice/grate swede or other veggies in so they 'dissolve' and are invisible.. but get eaten.
I serve with mash or roasties and loads of fresh baked warm bread!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
