Hi peeps
I'm hosting a long overdue Sunday dinner tomorrow (course its tomorrow silly me:D ) for my neighbour and good mate who regularly cooks for me. Shes a cracking cook so Im looking to do something that will have a bit of a twist to it. Have a really nice piece of beef that I got today but I could freeze that for another time if need be and have a fairly wide selection of vegs potatos and all that. I would like to stick generally with the sunday roast theme but maybe have a posh sauce or veg selection - any ideas? there will be 3 adults and one 11year old who can eat us all under the table:D
Ta peeps

You might be able to pick up a few ideas from this thread:-
Sunday roast cook off
Although - by the time you've finished reading it, it'll be too late to start
Or maybe this one:-
The perfect roast dinner?

Its never wise to try something new on the day you are trying to impress just cook a roast you are comfortable a meal always tastes great when someone else cooks make it special by dressing the table nice napkins perhaps a small spray of flowers, put horseradish mustard etc in nice little ramekins or similar and serve gravy in a gravy boat or nice jug.just remember friendship is a wonderful thing to share so relax and enjoy time with your friend0

a tot of port (or red wine) in the gravy is surprisingly effectiveYou'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky
Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.0 -

That's deffo Nelski's style :rotfl:
Hun - keep it simple. Roast the beef slowly - you could try searing the outside in a very hot pan first, if you can be bothered. Just do roasted pots and veg, some steamed veg and gravy. Dress your table nicely and most importantly (and this you'll be good at) keep the wine flowing.
Do you have a meat thermometer? Silly me - why'd I even bother asking. Erm ... don't over do it and let it rest before carving. If it's under-done you can always bung it back in for a bit - better than totally wrecking a decent joint by over cooking to start with.
PS Send me some up will ya?0 -

Not sure you can under-do beef? It's at it's best dark pink :TYou'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky

Unfortunately - my mother likes her brown all the way through. I like it somewhat pink though and as I'm getting older, I'm liking my steaks rarer too. Does that mean I'm turning into a vampire or something? :eek:0 -

mmm cooking the beef is definetley not the problem done quite a few of those in my yearsand yes it has to be pink for me (but the hubby of my mate likes everything cindered so I will be searing it to keep all happy!)
No I suppose what I was asking was if anyone had any nice ideas to make maybe the veg or a sauce a bit different - steamed veg are lovely but i just wanted a twist and was out of ideasThink I will go for some roasted veg or somat like that!
Anyway I will be making sure the table looks lovely like some of you have said I agree that makes such a difference and if I can rescue any wine from my sticky hands I will put some in the gravy:D Had a fantastic Laithwaites delivery this week so choice is good and Asda had Warres port down to a fiver this morning so it would be rude to leave it for that!!
Any other ideas please bring em on its later on tomorrow so will keep the final menu decision till later
ta for your help peeps:T :A0 -
