Make paper pots with no tools!

Options
I saw this on a gardening forum, and quite simply it is brilliant. All you need is one sheet of newspaper, and when you have the knack, it is simple!

I would recommend you read this with a sheet of newspaper in your hands!

i tried doing this using A4 paper as I had no newspaper handy. The pot was too flat (the one in the picture looks higher than it is wide). Anyway, too another sheet of A4 and lay it horizontal/landscape and folded horizontal. I then ripped along the fold to create a long and thin strip. I then folded it into 3rds to produce an even narrower strip. Then, started folding alternate ways each fold being slightly narrower than half the width to form a spring (that making sense?). I then opened this out to make a cross by pushing every other fold inwards. This was then placed inside the pot to produce 4 small seed compartments about 3cm wide.

Don't know if it's of any use. It would be great for flower seeds as they're about the same size as those trays with lots of compartments - just not sure if they'll seperate too easily.
  • that is very clever smk.... we shall have to see how they separate when the time comes ..

the beauty of the plain box is that you just plant it out when it is ready - sooo.....I wonder how small you could sucessfully make one of these boxes?
  • Thank you so much for this - will be great for sweetcorn. They don't like root disturbance, so I'll be able to plant them pot'n'all.

  • :j :j :j Thank you so much! I've often looked at the 'paper potters' but couldn't justify the money. I've just made one and it's sitting proudly on my desk now. :D
