Hi Abby,
I have a garden and grow veggies in raised beds - next year looking at growing rasps and maybe apples/pears - we shall see. I also grow lots in pots cause hubby and I are greedy (plus we have greedy pals:D ).
I currently have in pots 50 rhubarb seeds (may have went a bit OTT), Spring Onions (White Lisbon), Parsley, Chives, Garlic Chives, Radish (French Breakfast), and 6 Blueberry bushes (in ericaneous soil - spelling?). I am about to put into pots 15 new potato tubers - for Christmas new tatties - yum, yum. But probably won't last until Christmas.
Have previously grown fat wee round carrots in pots.
What about growing some Lambs Lettuce - perfect for pots, can plant in pots until August, harvest until the end of Oct.
Main thing is use decent sized pots - most of mine are the old flower pots sold in Morrisons 8 for 99p - use builders buckets for my tatties - were £1 out of Instore.
Other main thing is - enjoy:j your gardening.0 -
At this time of year you're best to stick with salad leaves, spinach, carrots and radishes.
Enjoy!0 -
I've been trying pots with basil, radishes, turnips, radishes etc and the best and easiest by far is perpetual spinach. It even got knocked over and uprooted and survived and also survived a complete flooding!0

Anything but you have to feed and water more frequently that's all.
If it's too late for sowing seed ( have a wander round the Garden centre and just read the sowing dates on the back) you can always pick up plug plants from online suppliers or go round some boot sales!Living on Earth can be expensive, but it does include an annual free trip around the Sun.0 -
Hi!
I've also got courgettes, cabbages, broccoli, carrots, brussel sprouts, leaf beet, potatoes and kale growing in big pots or growbags -all doing well, though perhaps a bit late in the season to start with seeds for these things?
I do make sure I water and feed frequently and got most of the plastic pots in cheap shops for a pound or two each = bargain! We have a tree surrounded garden so although quite large there are few places with decent soil which is diggable, hence all the pots.0 -
I've got lots growing in pots, although I have good-seized garden I have no soil at all, a it' all cobbled yard or paved patio. I've got about 30 pots.
I've found 64L Unitubs @£3.49 from wilkos make excellent veg planters, it you drill about 10 holes in the base.
I've got radishes and spring onions growing in a deep seed tra,. with a transparent storage box upside down on the top to make it into a propergator. Only swed thema week ago they're doing nicely already.
we started a bit late, but have lots of toms, courgettes, and herbs in our tubs.0 -
Like everyone said it's a bit late to sow some things, but I've just sown a seed tray full of mixed lettuce leaves, they come up big enough to thin out (eat the thinnings - very delicate salads!!) and they are about 4 inches tall in a couple of weeks. To pick them, I just nip the leaves low down on the stalk - and they just keep growing - even in the last few weeks when it's not been very sunny! Any fairly wide container will do - you don't really need much depth - it's almost a waste of compost. Have a look here for an idea!
Also rocket is lovely in salads and will grow quickly (up in 4 days this week, but it is high summer) in ordinary compost - I'm using an old sink, but I have grown it in pots - Rocket is very expensive in those tiny bags in supermarkets - but it grows almost like a weed in a pot!!!!
Happy eating!0 -
