We are currently looking for a smaller home. One option is a 'Park home' (residential caravan type property) However, friends and family have advised that these do not hold their price (unlike traditional brick/stone construction) nad many site require you to replace every so many years. Have you any comments?

Your friends are correct in what they say, these properties depreciate in price in pretty much the same way as cars do.
Also many sites will not allow you to have an 'old' (aka- five years old) home and you have to buy a new one. However some do not insist on this so it is worth a look round.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Don't even think about it.You have no control whatever on who the site is sold on to.The new owners could(and do)do anything they like to make life miserable for you & make you take any offer to get off.0

you would have to pay a site rent which would keep rising
you would have little private "grounds"/privacy
They are not soundproof
The site owners have too much power
your capital investment depreciates - fast
On a plus side they are cheap - but you only get what you pay for!!:A Goddess :A0 -

Tell that to a friend who's residential site(not holiday) was taken over by the local G&T community,moving in a few of their undisirables to cause havoc.Had to sell in the end for peanuts,even though the local councilors,MP,etc all said what he was doing was illegal.UK Mike

ive lived in a park home for the last 16 yrs, i would never go back to bricks + mortar , most legal sites are protected by government they cannot suddenly be changed from a residential park to whatever the owner pleases . you need to do your homework there are some rogue owners out there , im currently looking to relocate to cornwall from kent and trust me im doing my homework !! im checking out all the owners of all the park homes
there , thro the local council just in case there,s any dodge ones with a reputation !!
having said that you need to go to the park your interested in and speak to the home owners there , thats the best judge of the park . and also post messages on a web site like this thats why im here now !!!
dont be scared off by people who have never lived on a park home site we can all relate to scare stories just like buying a house/flat ect , you have to do your homework i love it and no im not an oldie im 52 and moved here when i was 36 all three of my sisters live on this park, there are people that have lived here for 40 yrs its a lovely safe enviroment dont dismiss it ....JUST DO YOUR HOMEWORK:EasterBun GRAB EVERY OPPERTUNITY YOU GET ..YOU DONT KNOW HOW LONG YOUR HERE FOR0
