Anyone got an experience with online backup services? I am getting a bit weary about doing my backups (mainly documents, spreadsheets etc) to USB sticks or CDs since I seem to keep mislaying them. Also, they require me to actively make the backups myself, which I keep forgetting.
Ideally, what I want is a fully supported, secure online vault, and regular automatic backups of files/folders as per my specification. Years ago, I played with gmail drive but on re-reading about it, it doesn't seem to have progressed over the years and iit doesn't seem to be supported.
Don't mind paying a fair price for a good service though I don't want to pay through the nose either. Any (independent, please!) suggestions?

Have used Adrive's free service with no problems. For auto scheduling, something like Mozy might work for you.

many thanks, cuppajoe - mozy functionality looks very good indeed. They also appear to be owned by EMC, so there is a likelihood they won't just die and take my backups to their grave, or worse, sell them to someone else!
Have also found a couple of discount offers which makes it even more affordable than it is to start with ($4.95/month for unlimited storage per PC, or free if you only want to use 2GB, but I think I need more so have signed up for paid service).0 -
I have mozy home unlimited and am very happy with it. Would recommend the free version for up to 2GB0

If you only need the free 2GB then there is nothing better than Dropbox - it works on PC, Mac, Linux and iPhone.

Microsoft SkyDrive - http://skydrive.live.com

Having trouble with Mozy at the moment, might reinstall, as it's been good up to now, just won't backup for the past few weeks...0 -
Currys offer an online back up drive. If you pop into a store and enquire about buying a new PC/Laptop, they'll normally offer you the online backup for a knock down price with no obligation of buying a new PC/Laptop.0

Or does it have an automated backup feature?0 -

There are a number of cool things you can do with Dropbox, including syncing folders on your computer with it.0 -
I use BT Total Broadband service and they have a 5Gb online Digital Vault provided "free" with this level of broadband service. The software is not great with Vista, it works but it tends to lock the temporary files Office 2007 uses and they don't disappear when Word etc close so I tend to shutdown the digital vault when writing documents. I was thinking of upgrading to their 50Gb storage limit for £5 per month but was wondering what other reliable vendors were out there for this level of storage requirement.0

Try Microsoft's Windows Live SkyDrive. You get 25 GB of space for free.
If you want more, try ADrive, which gives you 50 GB of space for free.0
